philnyy #1 Posted September 26, 2001 in the early 80's atari came out with "venture"- with the red label, in the red bordered box. coleco also came out with a game called venture- is this the same game? the reason i ask this is because the pictures on the boxes are exactly the same. Raccoon Lad #2 Posted September 26, 2001 Coleco released Venture first, then after coleco went out of business Atari aquired their 2600 games and rereleased them under the atari name. They rereleased donkey kong as well as Venture, and possibly some other titles.
Tempest #3 Posted September 26, 2001 Mouse Trap, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., and Venture were all re-released by Atari. They also planned to release Turbo and Zaxxon but never did (Turbo wasn't even released by Coleco!). Atari did the same thing with Parker Brothers, they released Q*Bert and planned to release Frogger. Tempest
Raccoon Lad #4 Posted September 26, 2001 So does that mean there's the possibility of a turbo proto somewhere? or just the likely-hood that Atari acquired the rights to turbo and were planning on programming it themselves?
Tempest #5 Posted September 27, 2001 There's most definetly a proto out there somewhere. I actually saw one on ebay years ago but I never learned if it was fake or not. It's one of those games that exists somewhere... Tempest
