APE VS Pro System

Recommended Posts

I'm afraid I'm not sure what you're asking. APE is for emulating Atari SIO peripherals (disk drives, printers, modems, etc.), while the ProSystem is for connecting a stock 1050 to a PC for reading/writing disk images to/from Atari floppies. Your question seems to imply that the ProSystem is a superset of APE, but in fact they're two different (almost opposite) utilities that complement each other very nicely and can be purchased together.

There are two main advantages to registered APE, and both apply to writing. With the registered version, you are able to write directly to a PC mirror (hard drive space mapped to the Atari as hard drive space, as opposed to single floppy sized ATR files). The second, and biggest advantage, is that high-speed writes are supported. If you have the APE WARP OS installed in your machine, all read & write operations occur at 3X normal speed (what a US Doubler + SpartaDOS would give the 1050).

Registering APE is perhaps nowadays the best investment. You might not need the extra features, but the non-registered version is supposed to be just for test before you buy. And I think that Steven more than deserves the registration fee if you use his software.

I agree ... I've been a happy APE customer since about 1999, and buying APE was one of the best investments I've ever made. Even if you don't need all of its many features, you won't regret buying it.

Does somebody know if there are some limitations with the APE trial version compared with the APE Pro version?

I have the idea that i can use only virtual drive 1 and 2.
