Coleco handheld football remake

ANyone here got hold of one of these. are they close to the original? I'll probably get one regardless since I played my original one to death years and years ago..gotta see if my old patterns still work ..just seeing about any opinions on the new release

Yes I have one. I was visiting the Target store for lunch while a friend was doing some early Christmas shopping. We were talking and decided to see if Target had any specials that we would want to look it. I saw the ad for the real make of the classic football handheld. I first I thought I was imagining it since I can remember seeing this game about maybe late 70s or early 80s (can't remember exactly when).

 

They had the model for under $9 and we immediately started looking for it. We managed to obtain the last few that they had on their shelves and starting playing them, It is very much like the original although I don't remember what patterns I used to use back in the day so I am discovering new ones.

 

I wonder if Mattel will be releasing any other games. I remember playing another game with the Battlestar Galactica theme and would love to get a remake of that one.

I finally saw one of these at a Toys 'R' Us a few days ago. I knew they were out there but it still caught me by surprise when I saw it. For the life of me I have no idea why I didn't walk out of the store with one. I guess I was too busy looking for whatever it was that dragged me into TRU in the first place!

 

Now if you could just network two of these suckers together..

Unfortunately I don't think this would be a very easy thing to do given the extremely simple nature of the game. Still, it would be cool if someone managed to pull it off. Now that these are available in mass quantities and are pretty inexpensive, people will try hacking them. Since the earlier versions were collector's items, I doubt few people were willing to make such attempts on them.
