Marco(2) #1 Posted November 5, 2001 I just noticed this poll: "What is your favorite classic system outside of Atari?" Colecovision Commodore 64 Intellivision NES Odyssey2 SMS TurboGrafx-16 Vectrex So NES,SMS and even C64 and TurboGrafx have entered the classics status? Cheers, Marco
Raccoon Lad #2 Posted November 5, 2001 The NES,SMS and C64 are on the verge of being classic systems, (maybe in another 5 years), but I think the TurboGrafx should be grouped with the SNES and Genesis in whatever category they fall into.

IMO, being classic has little to do with being old... Cheers, Marco
ren.dhark #5 Posted November 5, 2001 Intellivision! Günther
liveinabin #6 Posted November 6, 2001 I'm not sure I'd allow C64. Its a computer! Why not have Spectrum and Apple 2 as well?
Alex #7 Posted November 7, 2001 Well, it's just for fun, it's not an official document or anything. I think a lot of people consider NES, SMS, and Turbo classic. It's interesting to see the results anyway. There are many ways to divide up systems into classic/neoclassic/whatever, and you will never get everyone to agree. I take your point about the C64. I included it because I think a lot more people consider that a gaming computer than the Apple II and Spectrum. Okay, I don't really know about the Spectrum in Europe, but it didn't have much (any?) presence here in the US. So, what poll would you like to see? I wasn't trying to define what's classic and what isn't by that poll.
liveinabin #8 Posted November 7, 2001 yeah, its wierd that the Spectrum wasn't really pushed much in the States. It had a software quantity that made the 2600's look like..well.. the Arcadia! Its a shame you guys missed out on several key points in the history of gaming - they all started on this little fella. If you get a chance, download an emulator - and track down games by 'Ultimate' (now rareware!) and the platform genius Matthew Smiths two greats, Manic Miner and Jetset Willy. This guy did as much for platform gaming as our mutual legend, Mr Crane. Oh yeah, check out Sandy Whites- 3D Ant Attack- the FIRST EVER solid isometric platformer. Great days sorry, got carried away there hehe
phuckedup #9 Posted November 9, 2001 I don't know if it agrees with your definitions, but I do refer to my TurboGraphx as 'classic'. It was a great system, left mostly forgotten. great system, great games. always boggled my mind that they stuck their games on plastic cards...
woodyi76 #10 Posted November 16, 2001 Nes by far. They have the best adventure games ever on any system. here are some examples 1. Zelda 1&2 2.Metroid 3. Kid Icarus (my favorite nes game) 4. Castlevania 1-3 5. Rygar 6. Goonies 2 (great game) plus great action/platformers 1.Mario 1-3 2.Karnov 3.Russian Attack 4.Contra Plus great sport games 1.Baseball Stars 1 & 2 2.Blades of Steel 3.Double Dribble 4.BasesLoaded 5.RBI Baseball 6.Track and Field 1-2 7.Mike Tyson's Punch out I love nintendo but I felt let down by the SNES and Nintendo 64 (I much rather play a nes game). I just hope gamecube is up to snuff.
the_shrubb #11 Posted November 18, 2001 Well, I love my 3DO, but I dont' know if that's considered a classic by most (it is by me). If I had to pick other than that, I'd say my Intellivision. Maybe it's just because I own the most games for that system (75+), lots are doubles though...
liquid_sky #12 Posted November 18, 2001 i know its not classic totally yet.. but if neo-geo was on the poll it would have my vote
Ze_ro #13 Posted November 20, 2001 I'll cast another vote for the ColecoVision. I had one of these as a kid, and I simply loved the thing. As for things mentioned by other posters, I think all the mentioned systems (well, the ones mentioned by Marco anyways... not the 3D0) are classic. And I still think of the Commodore 64 as a gaming system. I know it's a computer, but it has a cartridge port, and standard joystick ports, so it's pretty much both. I had one of these as a kid too --Zero
