Worst Atari game ever made

Recommended Posts

what is the worst game? i think galaxian is.

You must not like...

Space Invaders

Demon Attack

Megamania

Phoenix

...and about 20 others that are basicially the same game with different graphics. I wouldn't say Galaxian is a huge award winner, but the worst? You're knocking down a ton of titles at the same time.

Choose a better game and don't do any worse or what games shouldn't be released topics or people while type stuff like throwing poo like one of them did on me today.

I'll send an ET cart with a Pitfall label on it to whoever can explain what that meant.

Galaxian? That's one of my favourites. As for the worst, there are just too many. The 2600 is only rivalled by the PS2 for the amount of shovelware that surrounded it.

That meant don't do any topics that cause any potential posters to react in a not so good manner and by posting Galaxian and it didn't help matters to it.

Any thread that has worst or games that shouldn't made are asking for trouble here. See my thread http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=85142 with me orginally putting in catch a poo2 in a list of games shouldn't be made before I edited the entire post and changed what it said. One of the post said about throwing poo at me after I mention catch a poo2 in the list games that shouldn't be considered to be developed for the 7800.

No I don't want another e.t game. I already have a copy and have 2 copies of pac-man.

All the experts agree that Desert Falcon is by far the worst game released for the VCS, it makes Space Jockey look like Thrust!

but I still agree what the [email protected]#$ did that mean???????????

That meant don't create any topics like this one due to the first people who replied didn't like the game you picked or didn't like the topic at. I created a topic had what games shouldn't be created for the 7800 and that thread went out of control by the posters who posted after me overreated or are touchy by me orginally posting catch a poo 2.

Oh dear, Oh dear. I can see this thread is gonna get messy!

A few minor points:

Karateka is a 7800 game

The worst 2600 game is easily Mr. Postman (my god I hate it more than Pac-Kong or Firefly!!! :x )

Galaxian is a very good game, easily in my top 20

Now can we please get back to normal!

Lets all throw poo!!!!! :D

Got a ROM of that one somewhere? The only manual on the AA site makes it sound at least somewhat interesting though the writing reads like a cross between Engrish, "Only one touch on the side walls, all the previous efforts will go nearer to the edge of being in vain, for the poor Mr. Postman loses one of his chances again," and Ed-Wood-ian. "Your score accumulated is decreased progressively by 10 points in this progress." Oddly, the "English" instructions fit on one page--even with that florid writing style--while the German version takes two pages. That first sentence, for example, is "Nur eine einzige Berührung der Mauern an der Seite, und alle vorhergehenden Anstrengungen konnten für den armen POSTMANN umsonst gewesen sein, denn jedesmal verringern sich seine Chancen."

Any clue what language those instructions would first have been written in? The odd metaphorical construction in English doesn't seem to be translated from the German (Google translates the German as: "Only one contact of the walls at the side, and all preceding efforts could have been for the poor POST OFFICE MAN in vain, because its chances are reduced each time.")

Actually, I find it interesting that almost every company that produced any original games for the 2600 managed to produce at least one game that was at least halfway playable. Even Mythicon and Playaround managed it (I'd consider "Starfox" and "Cathouse Blues" to be halfway playable, though not much more). About the only company I can think of that I'd consider an absolute complete loser is Ultravision (Karate and Condor Attack are both pretty worthless).

BTW, did Froggo produce any original games, or just re-releases and hacks of other companies'? Why did Froggo inflict Ultravision's games on an unsuspecting world? Wouldn't a cart full of NOPs have been less painful?

Galaxian isn't horrible, but it certainly isn't very good. Try playing Galactic Chase some time. It's a Galaxian clone that's superior to the official Atari port in pretty much every way.

Um ... hello? Skeet Shoot? Froggo's Karate? Double Dragon? Creme de la Crap, the lot of them. In fact, I understand forcing prisoners to play these games was the real reason detainees complained at Abu Ghraib. The naked horse whippings and electrified nipple clips were entertainment by comparison.

I actually prefer Desert Falcon to Space Jockey. The worst game in history has to be either Karate by Ultravision, Sssnake by Data Age or Skeet Shoot by Apollo with Great Escape by Bomb being a wild card entry ;)

If we are limiting the discussion to titles released by Atari, then the award should go to the entire Swordquest series. If we are talking about all the releases for the Atari 2600, then I would have to vote for Skeet Shoot. I think the Mcdonalds prototype is more fun than that game. People voting for average games like E.T., Pac-Man or Galaxian need to get out and experience the true depth and breadth of crappy titles available for the 2600.

Cheers!

You know, I never have liked Galaxian either. I don't have the Atari version, but the arcade version is way too slow. It always seemed kinda boring just sitting there slowly shooting, and if I know Atari's reputation for arcade translations, it has a pretty good chance of being a bad one. Anyway, I'm just saying that I can see why someone would pick it as the worst.

You are absolutely right. Sword Quest Fire world is totally lame (not that the other two were world beaters). Yes Pac Man was bad but at least you could still play it for a couple of hours. Games like Skeet Shoot, Great Escape and nameless others turned you off after a few minutes ;)
