Rhindle The Red #1 Posted November 29, 2001 I remember a while back a rumor that Nintendo was considering remaking the Famicom. Supposedly, the skyrocketing prices of used Famicoms in Japan convinced Nintendo that they should remake it at a competitive price. Did this ever happen? I've noticed an increase in available new Famicoms lately and I'm wondering if this is the reason, or have a lot of them just shown up or are they bootlegs? I'd really like and actual Famicom, so I don't have to use the annoying adapter on my NES. Does anyone know what the scoop is?
CosmicJoke #2 Posted November 29, 2001 Have you checked out the Game Axe: A Web Page of info about the Game Axe I believe that this portable Famicom can also be hooked up to a TV with a Sega type A/V cable. Since its a version of the Famicom you do not need an adapter for Famicom games but you do need one for NES games. I think they sell for under $100 new on eBay. Altough that may get higher for the Christmas season. I have been considering buying one, but, haven't decided yet. If you check it out, post to let me know what you think about it. If anyone out there reading this has one, please, post a reply with your impressions of this system Oh yeah, as you can probably tell, this is not an official Nintendo product. Rhindle The Red #3 Posted November 30, 2001 I do not own a Game Axe, but I have played one, so I can give you my impressions. First of all, be aware that despite the new boxes and the packaging designed to look like the Game Boy Color, most Game Axes were built in the late 1980s. They were merely gathered together (many are used) and re-boxed. The screen is big, but very washed out. It can be difficult to see things, especially in shooting games. The controls are stiff and the unit is more uncomfortable than it looks like it would be. I, for one, will not be getting one. Just too many drawbacks. ubersaurus #4 Posted November 30, 2001 I haven't heard anything on new famicoms being produced. Methinks it's just due to piraters and the systems popularity in japan.
