ninjarabbit
Sounds like someone in the Oregan legislateture had to unload some of those illegal NES-clone controllers.
dwh
The real catch is that the prisoner has to first use their low wage prison labor to buy a $300 TV, then they can get the $35 game controller.
shadow460
Yeah, but the $300 is a goal that prisoners will have to spend some time working towards. They get the opportunity to buy the TV after six months, but I bet they'd have to save money for most of that six months to buy the thing. When you're not faced with the "spend your money here" ads and temptations blaring in your face every second you're awake, it's easy to focus on something you'd like to buy and then save for it. That's how I bought $1000 worth of jewelry and a $500 DCC player. I was deployed onboard a ship that stayed out for up to six weeks at a time, and I just naturally saved money that way. I saved quite a bit on an E-1 salary, which was about $250 every two weeks. Later, on an E-4 salary, I saved tons of money.
