Anyone know what this console is?

Recommended Posts

Someone pointed this out to me recently, anyone know what it is?

Kenner Prototype Console

The art was found in a Kenner warehouse, so it's a Kenner console concept of some kind. Anyone hear of that before?

I haven't any idea...but looking at the artwork it appears that it actually accepted either Beta or VHS tapes from which to run the games from. I wish some concept sketches of the controllers or something like that had been found or shown with this. Because as it looks from the artwork there, it operated via a keypad of some sort just under where it says "GAME 1".

Interesting, notice how futuristic and almost Star Trek looking this is?

Thanks for the Link Alex!

Thanks for posting the link Alex.

Unfortunately, this was the only piece of console related art found. In case you can't see it in the picture, the date is 4/27/81.

I know that Hasbro was developing some console game ideas, so it only makes since that Kenner would have been dabbling in the idea also. Hopefully someone will turn up some info on this.

I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but I've heard tales of a VHS driven game system that never got put on the market. I was told that Sewer Shark was originally developed for said system, and the Sega CD version was made from a VHS tape in EP mode made to run on that system because the original film had been lost. But then again I can't be certain of how correct this info is.

My god, it's like the VHS version of Playstation 2!!

Probably just as well they never made it, imagine the problems you'd have trying to keep a 20 year old VHS game system going.

Maybe we're all wrong, perhaps its a microfiche system designed for cataloguing collections of Star Wars figures!

There is a tiny bit of information out there about the Hasbro/Axlon ISIX (or ISIX NERO), a videotape game player. A Yahoo search turned up one German site, plus resumes for two people who worked on the system.
