Question about Castlevania for GBA

Recommended Posts

A question about the Castlevania Double Pack for the Gameboy Advance. Are the two games complete? I want to make sure they're not missing any levels or anything. Any information would be great.

Haven't noticed anything missing so far, and I've spent hours with Aria of Sorrow. I'm not sure if the game unlocks the Rare Ring in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow for the DS. If it doesn't, that's the only thing missing.

I tried my double-pack with DoS, and it didn't unlock anything. So, my vote is for no,... unless I did something wrong (insert both games, start a new game in DoS, check inventory for swag).

I played all through Aria of Sorrow on the double pack, and everything was there. I only got about halfway through Harmony of Dissonance before I gave up on it (I didn't enjoy HoD as much as the other two GBA Castlevania games). Aside from the Rare Ring unlocking, both games on this cartridge are complete. It's a great deal, I highly recommend getting it.

And the Rare Ring wouldn't really be a case of completeness as much as diffrence.

Aria doesn't write into the Dawn save slot. Aside from it isn't the program that's run to get the items, they didn't know about Dawn when they were writing Aria.

Logically, Dawn reads the GBA cartridge slot at new file creation.

Since it doesn't appear to be dependent upon any save file conditions, just cartridge existence, it likely just uses the checksum of the ROM or something similar. The 2-pack, of course, has a diffrent ROM, and thus a diffrent checksum.

If there had been multiple versions of Aria released before Dawn, they probably would have run through multiple checksums to catch each version.

It's a darn shame that no one thought to set up a hook for the 2-in-1 cart, but it's not really an incom, pleteness in the 2-in-1 as much as it is an incompleteness in Dawn. If that makes any sense.
