Which Monitor?

Hi eveybody.

 

I have recently returned to the Atari scene after digging out my STe and 130XE out of the loft (5 years) and luckily eveything works perfetly, however after straining my eyes over a game of Lemmings (forgot how addictive that game is) I released that my 14" portable won't cut it any more and I need a monitor for the benefit of a sharper picture.

 

The question is which one is best and is easily available (ebay etc.) Also is it possible to connect my 130XE to the same screen or not. I've noticed a commodore 1084st on ebay looks good but will it work with my Atari setup?

 

Any help very much appreciated

Yes, this is good monitor for you. It has both RGB input (for Atari ST) and S-video input (for Atari 8bit)

I'm not sure about the monitors that will work with 130XE, but for the STe your best bet for games is the Atari SC series monitors,, they are just plug in and go with the STe and have sound buiilt in too. Avoid the SM series Atari monitors as these are high res (monochrome mode) only, and won't work with games, but are good for "serious" applications. Both come up on Ebay regularly.

 

ViewTek also made a series of greyscale (B&W) low and medium res monitors with speakers, but the resolution was not nearly as good as the SC monitors.

I plumped for a Commodore 1084ST from ebay and all is working fine with the ST (got a cable from Vintage Computers) and I'm just about to order a Video/Chroma/Luma/Audio cable for the 130XE from Bravo Sierra computers.

 

All in all very happy.
