colorful display from non-working snes

Recommended Posts

hello

my first post, someone please help me out.

i bought an old style snes that didn't work, all it did was show a black screen when i turned it on.

i cleaned the connectors with a cleaning kit, and now when i try to play a game i get a white screen

with colorful polka dots, changing in various positions when i reset. I figured that i needed a new connector

but i didn't know if anyone had seen that before. I was hooking it up with a composite cable when i got the

dots. Thanks in advance for any feedback and tips on possibly fixing it.

Sounds like the cartridge contacts could still be dirty. Try cleaning the cartridge connectors with a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol. Go over it for a couple minutes and try it again.

ok i cleaned out one particular cartridge as much as possible, fires right up on my 94 style snes. try to load it on my older snes, and all i get is various colorful designs on the screen. which is better than the black screen i get with my most of my other games. anyone got ideas? please!

Sounds to me like the deck's broken.

Could try cleaning the SNES cart slot again, though.

Make sure you clean the cleaning kit itself between cleanings. The dirt deposits on the cleaning wand that goes into the deck. If you look at it, you can see little black lines where the pins rub on it. Wipe those off with something(I use the legendary QTip dipped in alcohol) before you clean the deck again.

ok, i'm assuming my connector is dead after extensive attempts at cleaning. so would replacing the connector most likely solve my problem, or because of the various colorful outputs, it suggests that my snes is beyond help. anyone have a suggestion based on past experiences. thanks

The symptoms you're describing don't sound like a connector issue.

Damaged video chip or bad RAM or something.
