Gregory DG #1 Posted January 7, 2002 I'm hoping many of you got to see this episode tonight! If you didn't, stop by www.ataritimes.com for the updated "Atari on Film" page complete with Futurama screen captures!
NE146 #2 Posted January 7, 2002 That episode was great! Bit I'd probably call it more "classic arcade games on Futurama" than Atari. But heck, any show with more than a passing reference to Space Invaders gets a thumbs up in my book.

+-^CrossBow^- #6 Posted January 7, 2002 BTW Greg, Rick Shroeder also had one of those Androbots or something similar that could be seen from time to time in the background around where the arcade machines were. There was not only a Tempest machine...but I am fairly certain there was an Asteroids and Centipede Cabs there as well. Of course this all has to be verified by actually watching some re-runs of the show. But who wants to do that? krisjohn #8 Posted December 1, 2003 The DVDs for Season 3 have recently been released, including this episode. Special features on the DVD include an animatic (like an animated storyboard) for this episode. It was originally going to include far more references to Atari 2600 than Nintendo. Unfortunately the commentary track cast no light on why it was changed.
+davidcalgary29 #9 Posted December 2, 2003 More Atari on film: in the movie The Parallax View (1974), there's a scene in which you can see a chimpanzee playing "Pong" (the chimp loses). Is this the only instance in a film where an Atari game is played by an animal (aside from a human?)

SteveW #13 Posted December 2, 2003 I still love that line. "It's Saturday night. I have no date, a 2 liter of Shasta, and my all-Rush mix tape. Let's rock!"
desiv #14 Posted December 2, 2003 I haven't seen that one yet, but I saw an episode of Futurama when Fry and Bender got ahold of some type of super XRay machine. When Fry hit Bender with the ray, you could see a chip that said 6502 on it in his head. I had to explain it (the 6502 and why I was laughing) to the other people in the room. :-) desiv
Ze_ro #15 Posted December 2, 2003 When Fry hit Bender with the ray, you could see a chip that said 6502 on it in his head. I had to explain it (the 6502 and why I was laughing) to the other people in the room. :-) One of the things I like about Futurama is how subtle some of the jokes are... Simpsons used to be like that too for the first couple of seasons, but newer episodes almost beat you over the head with the jokes. There are lots of odd, nerdy jokes in Futurama that 90% of people will just not understand... my favorite was when the crew went to a horse race, and the outcome was so close they had to go to the electron microscope to decide who won... Professor Farnsworth stood up, tore his ticket in half and yelled "No fair! You changed the outcome by measuring it!" (The joke here being quite rooted in quantum mechanics) --Zero
SteveW #16 Posted December 3, 2003 I also like the guest stars they get on Futurama. What other show has ever gotten Dr. Steven Hawking, Vice President (at the time) Al Gore, Gary Gygax (creator of Dungeons & Dragons), and Nichelle Nichols (Uhura from Star Trek) onto an episode? Al Gore was easy to get to do Futurama, because his daughter worked on the show.
Kenshi #17 Posted December 3, 2003 One of the things I like about Futurama is how subtle some of the jokes are... I was thinking about that tonight and I noticed there were a lot of subtle geek jokes. The only one I remember is that they went to the planet Amphibios. There was another one that actually took me a few seconds to get, but I've forgotten it now. Futurama and Family Guy definately rule.
BassGuitari #18 Posted December 5, 2003 The original Computer Space appears in Soylent Green. Pretty cool
MegaManFan #19 Posted December 5, 2003 You guys should really listen to the bonus commentary on the DVD sets. They explain a lot of the inside jokes, like planets being named after obscure scientific theories, and the formulas on Professor Farnsworth's drawing boards and chalkboards always being mathematically accurate. One joke that I never caught until watching the DVDd's was that Bender was having a nightmare full of zero's and one's, and when he woke up in a panic he told Fry he thought he even saw a 2. Fry comforts him by saying "there's no such thing as 2" but if you go back and watch his nightmare frame by frame there +IS+ one 2 in it!
