I think you are talking about the joystick by spectravision? I have one and I could scan a picture if you want. I use it with any games that need 2 buttons. It is a nice stick (the handle is like the Wico Boss) but the stick is tighter than a Wico (I like this. It has a place for overlays and two buttons on the stick and on the keypad. Want any more information? -- RG

just a picture of what it looks like, i think i remember seeing this controller name you speak of on many web sites, so it might just be different names for the same controller

Lemmi -- tomorrow I will see if I can take a picture, but I can't make any promises with my digital camera. The joystick is by Spectravision so searching with the manufacture should ring up some pictures. I put out a question on the digital press board about alternative colecovision joysticks a couple of weeks ago and one of the responses praised the stick. I like it better than the Super Action controllers. Good luck! -- RG

I have a picture of my Quickshot III controller, along with a few other rare third party Colecovision controllers over at my site:

http://retrogames-r-us.tripod.com/

Click on the first link to the Rare Video Game items. I also have a set of Wico's, Champ Adapters, Newport Prostick III's, and Questar Joysticks pictured there too. These are all from my personal collection.

Feel free to browse the rest of my items and magazines there too.

Thank you

I have looked at your whole site before and the controllers were not there last time i looked at it *1 sec* I had to wipe the drool off my mouth cause of some of those controllers (where is the Driving controller for the coleco? do you have one?). the 5200 ones are great i only wish i could find one that wasnt to expensive i really want to play my 5200 but the normal joysticks are so terrible (even if they are new)

i have the SA controllers (boxed) coming soon from collectors house and RangerG is selling me a Quickshot 3 controller that he got from Telegames so my colecovision will be pretty set up (those controllers above, 5 reg. joysticks, driving controller, SA sticks, roller ball, atari 2600 adaptor and 22 games) now if i can find a original box i will be really happy

thanks MrRetrogamer for the pictures

Hi Lemmi,

I just updated my site this past weekend with the Coleco, Atari and Fairchild pictures, that's why you haven't seen them before! No driving controller included, my original one got tossed out years ago and I have not replaced it (YET!).

I just recently got the two Newport Prosticks. Word of advice - when the auction states UNTESTED, take that to mean NOT WORKING!!! Luckily, I was able to find the cause of the problem (cables were completely shorted out) on both and managed to perform some surgery and replace the cables by using some old 6ft joystick extension cables. I am happy to report that they both work great now!

I need to do the same for one of the Questar controllers too, directional control is spotty due to a short in that cable I believe.

The Quickshot III is a pretty good controller, you'll be happy with that one. I had to take mine apart and clean up the contacts inside because it was a bit irratic. A simple cleaning is all it needed.

For the 5200, there really are not many choices out there. The WICO and Comp Pro are pretty expensive when you find them, and a few I've come across have been in less than 100% working condition (luckily, I was able to repair them - gee, I see a trend here!) The Masterplay is great if you can find one, I like to use that with a WICO Red Ball for most of the games I play on the 5200.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Well i just got a Coleco Driving Controller and it has a place to put 4 C batteries, and i was wondering if you needed to put batteries in it to get it to work, or will it work off the power of the coleco?

but my guess is that you need the batteries for it to work, i would test it my self but my game room is in a middle of a overhaul and everything is back in boxes

Can anyone confirm about the batteries?

4 batteries are needed to use the driving module. *note 4 AA batteries will work if you don't have any c batteries, but using AA instead of C's will probably require tape and possibly a few pennies against the springs to insure a tight fit. It's not pretty, but it works.

Mr. Retrogamer -- Loved the link to the pics on your site. How did you ever get two Questar sticks for the Colecovision? What are they worth? How did the Newports turn out? How do they compare to the Quikshot joystick (which is a pretty nice stick). I am in the same situation as Lemmi with the 5200. I have found lots a game for it at the flea market, but I am not sure about really investing in it because of the controllers. Again -- nice collection! -- RG

Ok anyone have any suggestions on how to clean up the Driving Controller, ive cleaned everything but the Steering wheel because i cant figure out how to get to the part that spins inbetween the top of the casing and inside where it turns into the disc part

when i got it, it looked as if it was at a flea market for quite along time where there is alot of sand, and when i turn the wheel you can hear sand like particals grinding

It works fine i would just like to clean it up and remove the dirt from it, there has to be a way to remove the wheel part

Can anyone help?

RangerG -

The Coleco Questar joysticks were mine from the beginning. I ordered those from an ad in the back of an Electronic Games magazine back in 1983 I think. They've been in storage for a very long time, but since they are made with quality parts, they still are working pretty nice! As far as what they are worth, I think of them as a MasterCard commercial:

Questar Joysticks in 1983: $44.95

Questar Joysticks in 2002: Priceless!

The Newports are now 100% working too, and I like the feel of that stick too. Again, quality leaf spring switches make all the difference. The Quickshot is nice because it sits on a table with the suction cups and you don't have to hold it. The stick is a bit looser, but the pistol grip works out for many games (Cosmic Avenger and Zaxxon really feel cool with that stick!)

The 5200 is a great system, and the joysticks, if they WORK, are acceptable. You can clean them, but if you really want them to be 100% fully working, you need to REBUILD them. If you are interested in doing this, contact me directly at MrRetroGamer at Hotmail dot Com and I'll give you more info.
