+DarkLord #1 Posted March 28, 2006 I saw a topic like this in the 8bit forums, but couldn't find one similar here. So lets have it - I know there are some "high powered" Atarians here. I'd like to hear your stories about who you are and what you did, Atari wise. Just to start the ball rolling, I'll give my own brief "moments". Sysop of a fairly popular Atari based BBS Wrote a couple of Atari articles for Current Notes Now, I know there are some "heavyweights" here that will leave my poor contributions in the dust. I'm looking forward to reading about all of you!
muguk #2 Posted March 29, 2006 (edited) Author of more than a few handy utils (well, I thought so!), saved game cheat editors and Professional Virus Killer. Wrote an article for ST Applications (UK "serious users" magazine) on training games (adding infinite lives etc) - but they never credited me, so good job my name was plastered throughout the source code listings! Also did a few one off articles for ST Doormat on viruses at the time - only got one published about The Green Goblin one though. That's about it (that's legal!). Currently editing the database behind Atari Legend to fix errors and update entries etc. Edited March 29, 2006 by muguk
Rybags #3 Posted March 29, 2006 I never really got heavily into the ST scene. By the time I bought one, I'd left school and wasn't playing around with them at home as much, but bought the ST over the Amiga as it cost less at the time, and had a bigger software range. Plus, I wanted to learn 68K (was writing useful code in under a week). I made a hardware interface, much like APE and wrote the software to emulate up to 4 1050 disk drives, in 1988. I did it in the dBASIC environment, using it's assembler (it's all I had). Never went commercial with it, and never developed it beyond proto but it worked just fine. As far as I know, I don't have the program anymore because I sold my ST about 4 years ago (had one given to me since, though). I also wrote a 6502 disassembler, and a routine which did 80x50 characters in mono (using the 8-bit character set, which I had transferred across). I was going to do another version of my 1050 emu which used the serial port - probably lucky I didn't because I had no idea of the voltages at the time (probably would have fried the XL). +Stephen Moss #4 Posted May 24, 2006 (edited) I'm not sure I qualify for a whole 15 minutes of fame, 30 seconds of fame maybe. For what its worth my dubious Atari related credentials are that I have... Written articles for My Atari and another online magazine that I can't remember the name of (it was a few years ago). Tournament coordinator and co-organizer of JagFest UK Written RouteFinder Update program: Basically a menu interface to display text files outlining a common format to use plus a few additions/alterations that need to be made to the original maps to keep them up to date. Written ATCIUM program: Basically a sort of interactive user manual based around a representation of the standard GEM desktop and file menus with aditional menus on other Atari systems and contact details of some Atari related forums, newsgroups, manufactures and distributers. OK, its not much use to experianced users but new users or people who are digging their ST out of the loft for the first time in years might find it useful. Available within the next couple of weeks when I update my Website. Wrote a HD Boot Password program - unreleased as it would not record the correct time and date from Clock Cartridges and IIRC HD Driver has that function anyway. Member of the STOS Mega Demo group. Slowly writing STOS 3D game for the Falcon (my run on an emulated ST via STeem) Developed and produced new Hardware and Overlays for the Jagaur (not ST related I know but I thought I may as well mention it) Edited May 24, 2006 by Stephen Moss
