dinoboy38 #1 Posted April 3, 2006 I fell in love with Atari all over again when I got this for my PC. It was great reliving Atari's earliest gaming years and playing some it's classic games of yesteryear. The Vector graphic games pose a challenge, especially Lunar Lander, since I mostly make a crash landing on the target. And it fun to play the traditional Arcade hits like Centipede, Crystal Castles, Asterioids, etc since it brings the challenges to any gamer. And now for the best part, it also has a nice handfull of Atari 2600 games how cool is that. Sure the graphics were blocky, the sounds were limited, but the gameplay is there, and it makes you think of how far we've come from the videogame industry. Who's to know how more realistic the games will be in the future. With a price of about $20 or lower, I say go and buy it, it's worth every quarter. JB #2 Posted April 3, 2006 I'd call it a handful of arcade games in a 2600 game bundle, personally. 18 arcade VS 62 2600. It seemed like they were just grabbing games at random to pad the list out, really. Did anyone actually WANT Basic Programming?
snorlaxnut #3 Posted April 3, 2006 I put this one on my mom's PC. She loved playing Circus Atari and Poker Plus. There are 82 games on the disc. If you look at the "images" section of the bonus materials, you will find somebody's hack of Combat and the 2600 version prototype for Tempest.
+kisrael #4 Posted April 4, 2006 What kind of Combat hack??
NightSprinter #5 Posted April 4, 2006 I can't comment on that Combat hack, but I did find something good for those of you who own a Stelladaptor or two: Digital Eclipse (the wonderful guys who do all the emulation software for collectiosn like this and Namco Museum) released a patch that allows the Stelladaptor to work with 80 Classic Games in One. +kisrael #7 Posted April 4, 2006 Cool did it get any more developed? Not that I've played with the old one much, but the idea is intriguing...
NightSprinter #8 Posted April 4, 2006 Not sure if Atari thmselves made any further patches.. but you would have to look up the Digital Eclipse site for any updates as far as I'm aware.
+FujiSkunk #9 Posted April 4, 2006 (edited) I'd call it a handful of arcade games in a 2600 game bundle, personally. 18 arcade VS 62 2600. Eh, it helps give a cross section of what games were avaialble for the 2600, to anyone who has more than a passing interest in video game console history. The thing I like most about this collection is that all the arcade games, and the 2600 emulator, come in separate executables, so they can be run apart from the main program. Also, all the 2600 games are just standard ROM images, so it is trivial to swap game binaries. Would you like the program to load Asteroids DC+ instead of the original Asteroids? Just give the new binary the same name as the old one, drop it into the ROMs directory, and there you go. I don't know if the emulator is based on any existing emulator (this being Digital Eclipse, I would assume they wrote their own), but I've found its compatibility rate to be fairly high.
