Fretwobbler #26 Posted February 2, 2002 My first was a Grandstand Pong-type, I can recall playing the 'Squash Practice' by myself(no freinds boohoo!) for endless hours. First Atari experience was Plaque Attack at a freinds house and the moment after getting home my parents got a 10 hour long "but I want one" session. Needless to say they gave in and I got my first Atari aged 8. Adam
liveinabin #27 Posted February 2, 2002 I remember as a kid, and zx81 owner, going round a friends house and seeing Ghostbusters running on his ZX Spectrum. I was like "Oh my god! look at the colours! and speech!! wow!". I started to save my pocket money for one - they were £130 at the time and I got 50p a week. Luckily mum stepped in a few weeks later and bought me the computer I'd still have been saving now
slosu #28 Posted July 8, 2008 My first HOME gaming experience was Breakout for the Atari 2600. I remember seeing Breakout's colors for the first time....I was shocked! At the time I was soooo terrible at it but I didn't care, I was addicted.
Ryanw #29 Posted July 8, 2008 I was either three or four and I remember my dad brought home an NES with SMB/Duck Hunt, Excite Bike, Paper Boy, Rock N' Ball, and Yoshi. It's weird, but I know we had the NES for at least a year but I only remember playing it that first time with my second memory when I was around 9. But yeah my childhood memories are filled with memories of my SNES
Vic George 2K3 #30 Posted July 9, 2008 I played various Pong-type game systems, including one that played a two-player tank game, but the first time playing an Atari 2600 game system was at a kiosk in J.C. Penney up at the Holyoke Mall with a friend of mine playing Combat, about a year or so before my family first got an Atari 2600 for a Christmas present. My sister Vicky was generous to pay for a Space Invaders game a day or so after, and we spent all Saturday at my father's apartment playing the different game variations, including the two-player ones. I was thirteen at the time.
marcfrick2112 #31 Posted July 9, 2008 hmm, memory's a bit foggy... Anyone know if the coin-op Space Invaders was in the US in 1978? If so, then that's my first gaming experience, at a Greyhound bus terminal in Milw. WI. .... If not, then the first would be a Radio Shack TV Scoreboard Pong game, bought in 1979, still have it, still works
JamesD #32 Posted July 9, 2008 (edited) The first arcade game I played was Space War in a laundromat and the first home video game console (other than a PONG clone that died immediately and was returned) I played on was the 2600. I think the 2600 game was Combat. Tried several others that day and thought the 2600 sucked. I've never like the 2600 to this day. wstankew #33 Posted July 9, 2008 We had an NES for my younger years (born in '87), but I don't really remember playing it much. My mom says we had games like Sesame Street Spelling (something like that) for me, and games like Silent Scope for my dad. I do remember playing my aunt and uncle's NES though, they had much cooler games, like Ninja Gaiden and Blade Runner. one of my earliest memories was coming home from Toys 'r' us with my SNES(still alive and kicking!) that my parents had bought for my brother and I for having good grades throughout the school year. After that I have countless memories of playing Super Mario World, NBA JAM, Donkey Kong Country, Megaman X... Sadly when the SNES came into the picture, my parents saw fit to ship the NES off to one of my other uncles house's and it was never seen again. They upgraded us to the N64 one easter and we had the sense to store the SNES in the attic. About 4 years ago I was struck with the retro-gaming bug and was able to purchase an NES on ebay, brought the SNES out of the attic and discovered my dad's atari in my grandma's basement. To this day, these remain part of any entertainment system/TV set up I have.
