Speaking of the 5200 and the jaguar has anyone tried to make a cable for the 5200 so you could use a jaguar controller? Sorry a bit off topic but the 5200 controllers just bug me to no end
Noble Kale #6 Posted January 25, 2002 hmmm. Atari vcs/2600 Atari Lynx Sega Mega Drive Sega Master System Intellivision Colecovision NES doesn't come near my top 10, even though I don't have 7,8,9 & 10, simply cause its a bastard to get working. (and yes, I have cleaned the f**king contacts!)
liveinabin #7 Posted January 25, 2002 Top ten, Okay:- 1:Atari VCS (dah!) 2:ZX Spectrum 48k (the world should have known its glory) 3:Gamecube (best controller ever) 4 reamcast (just think what kind of performance they'd be getting out of it now) 5:Saturn (..hyper Burning Rangers WOW..) 6:Playstation 1 (I know its not cool but, well..)(its 'successor' is the worst console I have ever used by the way, borrowed one yesterday - a hateful and cynical marketing device - tried so hard to like it but can't) 7:Gameboy Advance (WITH light attached) 8:Commodore 64 (SID chip) 9:Vectrex (one day....) 10:Sega Master System

+RangerG #10 Posted January 25, 2002 Just wondering why only one person mentioned the Intellivision. I thought the Atari 2600, Colecovision, and the Intellivision would automatically be on everyone's list because they are so classic. I don't have an Intellivision and I have thought about getting one. However, I like to collect for systems I want to play. Having second thoughts about wanting to play the INTV! +-^CrossBow^- #11 Posted January 25, 2002 RnagerG: I do actually have an Intellivision. However, I very rarely ever play it. I find games for it all the time and they are usually very cheap ($1). But the fact is that I prefer most of the games for the other consoles. I actually prefer Colecovision Burgertime to the Intv version. I prefer 5200 Dreadnaught to Intv version. I guess I just find that while the Intv is a nice thing to have as part of my collection, it basically just sits there and I look at it wondering if I should even hold onto it. Don't get me wrong there are a few really good games for the system like Beauty and the Beast, Demon Attack on the Intv may have no equal etc... For me, it simply seems to be the ugly duckling in my collection that hardly gets any attention paid to it.
liveinabin #12 Posted January 25, 2002 Theres something missing in Intellivision games, that indefinable spark that Atari stuff has simply isnt there. The hideous control system only helps to further alienate the player. Its a pity, the speech unit is great, and I really want to love it, but its just a bit of an empty experience. Lost Monkey #13 Posted January 25, 2002 No Order is real, just implied: 1. Atari 2600 VCS 2. TurboDuo 3. Saturn 4. Dreamcast 5. Gamecube 6. Atari 7800 7. Neo Geo Pocket 8. Master System 9. NES 10. SNES
pitfallaimee #14 Posted January 25, 2002 My personal favorites, in no particular order: Dreamcast Gamecube SNES NES Atari 2600 Colecovision N64 SMS Gameboy TI-99/4a Not really a game system, but holds a special place: Tandy 1000 HX
liveinabin #15 Posted January 25, 2002 Hmm, theres a computer I never had- the TI-99/4a (snappy name), heard good things about them - must get one. Oh yeah, Aimee - another game winging its way to you for your favourite console [ 01-25-2002: Message edited by: liveinabin ]

I think the "Spark" lies in the Inty's processor. On a pure visceral level, the output of the VCS to the television screen is more "attractive" than the output of the Intellivision. Why? I don't know.. Most Intellivision games REQUIRE a sizeable time investment AND 2 players. Add that to the (seemingly) sluggish gameplay and the oddball controller and the next thing you know you are selling your Intellvision collection.... There are a few good one player 'arcade' style games, (Astrosmash comes to mind) but there are many arcade style games (and arcade ports) that 'look' good but don't play so good (Carnival, Pac-Man). liveinabin #17 Posted January 25, 2002 I agree. I foolishly thought I could solve the Intys problems, redesigning the controller etc. but the horrible 16-way with keyboard and 3 fire key matrix is an absolute SWINE to transfer into anything else. Dont buy one anybody, just leave it on ebay You're much better off visiting the Blue Sky rangers site and playing the games on PC - this is one instance where the emulator is WAY better than the original

geogray #19 Posted January 25, 2002 Boy, what an interesting topic. Let's see... 10. Atari 2600 9. Intellivision 8. NES 7. Vectrex 6. Sega Genesis 5. NeoGeo 4. Sega Master System 3. Nintendo GameCube 2. Nintendo GameBoy Advance 1. Any modern PC emulating any of the above I know my #1 may be a cop out, but hey...name a console that can play virtually any of the classic consoles PLUS the latest greatest PC games. My honorable mentions: Emerson Arcadia-I had one of these breifly. I don't recall how much I like the thing when I had it, I do remember being hooked on Cat Trax. The emulator is fantastic. Odyssey 2-yeah, graphics sucked but the gameplay was decent. It was my first real programmable game console How about the lamest consoles? I would include... Game.com handheld Microvision (even though I loved it at the time) Apf Imagination Machine Mattell Aquarius 'computer' Atari XGE Virtual Boy RCA Studio II-Lame as a console, interesting as a small hobby computer. Amazing what can be done in 512 bytes of ram and the most lame? The Fairchild Channel F. It may have been the first programmable, but boy was it horrible. liveinabin #20 Posted January 25, 2002 Thats not a cop out at all Really good choice. Oh and monkey (got the receipts by the way - thanks) - just as we were all getting despondent about the evils of Intellivision, you cheer us all up with a fabulous Strawberry dessert. King Asmo #21 Posted January 25, 2002 Here's my top-10 alltime systems, in order: 10. Sega Master System 9. Sega Genesis 8. Neo Geo Pocket 7. Atari 2600 6. Sega Dreamcast 5. Turbo Grafx-16 4. NES 3. Intellivision 2. Commodore 64 1. Colecovision 1 and 2 are pretty much tied... and I really happen to like the Intellivision. I'll probably be cast out as a heretic, but three of my least favorite systems of all time are the 5200, 7800 and Jaguar.. tho the 7800 is saved coz it plays 2600 games too. I never liked the Jag at all, and I really dislike the 5200s controller, tho it does have some good games. I also don't really care for the Emerson Arcadia.. that thing is a piece of crap. The Tandy CoCo is pretty lousy too. I haven't played enough Odyssey^2, Astrocade, Channel F or RCA Studio II to base an opinion but I can't imagine I'd be too overwhelmed by them. I'm also not a fan of the Vectrex. I like playing 2 player games and the system is too small to do that reasonably. The Vectrex feels really anti-social to me.
