RSS Bot #1 Posted April 11, 2006 Hi there! And here comes the next Graftgold game in this series: Ranarama Ratings: Zzap! Rating: 87% Lemon64: 7.8 Staff: Steve Turner (music) Gary J. Foreman (everything else) Overview: A Gauntlet style dungeon crawl. You're playing a frog with magical powers. You can cast offensive and defensive spells, while you travel through dungeons shooting most things that move. Occasionally you'll find some magic spot that activate a map or other things. Besides standard monsters and monster generators, there's also collectable energy crystals floating around and other powerful wizards, which are battled in a minigame, where you have to put some scrambled letters into the namegiving "Ranarama" order. If you win you can grab their power runes, making yourself stronger. Fun in 2006: I don't like this game at all. It's so goddamn ugly... I don't want to be in control of an ugly blob like this. It has "converted from spectrum" written all over and feels like a 2 week rush job. (Try it for yourself on the C64 DTV) Ranarama compared to the previous Graftgold titles: It borrows a lot from Paradroid I think. Replace the sci-fi setting with some fantasy backgrounds, implement a different grappling sequence and you're almost there. It's nowhere coming close to the class of Paradroid/Magnetron though.
