help! sega cd version 2 insides?

Recommended Posts

can someone post a picture of a sega cd console version 2. i just got one, it works, but it scratched one of my sega cds. i've never owned a console before, so i'm wondering if a part of the spinner is missing or not working or what. i'm mostly interested in seeing the center spinner pin part. help!

or just tell me how to get it to stop scratching discs? i tried taping some of the areas inside the console but it just made the disc slow down and the sega cd wouldn't read them correctly. any ideas?

I'm scared to ask what you put tape on.

But as per request...

Sorry it's a tad fuzzy. My digital camera sucks and couldn't see to focus on it.

i tried to put tape around the two indented parts of the sega cd coaster. it was very removable, and did not work, but kinda stopped the scratching noise. thanks for the posted picture, it is a little blurry, but it looks like i'm not missing anything. does yours scratch any disc?

you removed the disc on the door of the sega cd?

on mine there is a metal post in the middle of the spindle with nothing else inside

the platform that the eye is on, is it level? or tilted?

and now the disc on the door

does it move freely?

does it have the cloth type stuff on it?

here are some pics to look at

also im trying out a new polaroid camera i just got :D

ok i don't have that white piece on my center pin. that could be part of the problem. is it like a cloth, or a whole piece. thanks for your help

the disc on the door looks identical to mine, and moves freely

It's not always white. As you can see, mine is black.

does the white piece in the center lift the disc at all or is it flush with the surrounding metal? i think my unit may be off balance because when the disc is in, it is laying directly on top of the left side of the coaster metal. But on the right side it is raised slightly.

the white piece is attached to the black piece and both pieces are flush, and the circle groove on CDs fits flush over the whole circle piece

i wish we could see what you have, that would help alot i bet :)

here is a different angle to look at

Huh.

Seeing it from that angle, it's clearly a seperate part. I think mine's missing something now.

...

That alone won't make it eat disks. At least, not if mine's any indicator.

they are seperate parts, in my first pic you can see how the white part is attached to the black part (the 3 little dots)

the white part sits inside the black part and its flush, so i would think if yours is missing that, you would have an indentation of some kind

the sega cd2 im taking a pic of came out of the sega cd sports system with joe montana, i would bet there are different spindle configurations. my other one is buried under a mountain of other boxes

I've got the indentation and the dots. Just no spacer.

Possibly. They may've dropped the spacer as excessive later, or used it as a cheap way to do alignment(if the drive is low, add a spacer).

ok i'll have to look for a spacer that i can use. my cds seem to sit low so when they spin the hit the console and it cause the scratching around a sharp part of the warning label. i taped that area and it doesn't seem to scratch as bad, but only plays some discs and still scratches. i'll try to post a picture of my console tomorrow. thank you both for trying to help!
