River Raid II and Heavy Sixer Compatability Issues?

Recommended Posts

Are there any know compatability issues with the Heavy Sixer and River Raid II? I ask because the copy of RRII I got at CinciClassic works fine on my four switch woody, great actually! thanks Matt!, but simply will not work in my Heavy Sixer. All of my other games seem to work fine in the sixer and in the 4 switch, but RRII goes all screwy.

Anybody know anything?

Yep I have this problem, it doesn't work right at all, same with light sixers.

What's really strange is that I have the HES version of River Raid II and a tv to play PAL, and it runs solid.

Wow, no kidding!

My RR2 won't work on my heavy either! Strange, the screen comes on for about half a seconf then goes black!

works fine on my 7800 though....

Mine works fine on my junior and my 7800. I've never tried it on my heavy sixer.

The 5th Ghost couldn't get his working on his heavy sixer, so he tried it on a 4 switcher and it worked.

I'm starting to see a pattern here. ;)

I don't know about RRII as I don't have it. But, I have a Frogger cart that works fine on both of my 4-switchers, but not on either of my light-sixers. It starts, sometimes, but has graphic glitches or just won't start at all. I think the heavy RF sheilding on them (the sixers) doesn't allow the cart to insert all the way, IMO.

glad to see it wasn't just me! Now I'm stuck. I'll have to pull out the 4 switch every time I want to play RRII. Ah well, is the price we pay!

Ah Stan, just go ahead and max out RRII and store it on your trophy shelf! :D

I really need to get on Quadrun... I will once I'm done with my upgraded audio/video mod and finish my Atari in the PC ;)

Quite a few of the 'newer' 2600 games gave the heavy sixers problems. I've run across versions of Solaris and Radar Lock that wouldn't play on any of my Sunnyvales, but do just fine on my light sixers and juniors.

Sorry for resurrecting a thread that's over a year old, but I'm glad I found it because I thought I just got screwed. Here's the strange thing, though:

I picked up this RRII today as a dupe at the fleas. (Hey, who's going to pass up a dupe R6 when it can be used as trade bait?) :) Anyway, the RRII I've always had plays great on both of my heavy sixers (one is Atari, the other, Sears.) However, the one I picked up today rolls for about 3-5 seconds, then goes black.

Strange that one works and the other doesn't, don't you agree? ;) But I'm glad to know that the cart is fine. It'll make a nice addition to someone's collection (provided they have a 4-switcher to play it on.) :)

Does anyone know exactly what the incompatibility is? And if that's the case, wouldn't all carts that were run have the same incompatibility? I don't claim to be an expert in the innerworkings of the VCS, so I find this strangely curious...especially since I've got one that works in my heavy and one that won't. I wish I had a 4-switcher to try it out on. :)

Someone should dump both of those so the code can be analyzed.

Unfortunately, I don't have the equipment (or the knowhow) to dump them. If anyone can point me in the right direction as to what I need, I'd be more than happy to give it a shot. :) Is there a thread that explains how to dump ROMs?
