NES Donkey Kong classics cart.

Recommended Posts

Ah yes, another NES cart rarity question. Okay, I'm checking out a website, and it states that the Donkey Kong Classics cart is one of the rarest released for the system. I seriously doubt it's one of the rarest, but please help me here. I picked it up for like $15 years ago, did I strike it rich?

Part of the rarity luster of DKC is the fact that it's so sought after. It doesn't seem to be "as rare" as other "rare" titles, but it's also very popular, hence the higher prices.

A lot of times, calling a game rare isn't just about how hard it is to find, but also about how sought after it is. If people are willing to pay $13-$18 for it, the price and status will hold.

It's a fun game, but it's too bad that the concrete tub stage isn't on the DK side. DKJ has all four screens though.

Me? I bought mine brand new "back in the day" and paid $35 for it.

How do you all feel about Donkey Kong Math?

I used to love that game, but then I lent it too a friend, then after he never returned it, I asked him about it, and he said he gave it back.(meaning he lost it) What really sucks is I paid $10 for it with sleeve and instructions, and now, years later no matter where I look, I can't find it for less than $12. Grrrr.

Donkey Kong Math--never owned it and I haven't seen very many copies of this title. This must be one of the rarer NES titles...

I hear it is rare, along with DK3, it was one of the opening run NES carts that never saw a 2nd run. Hence, it's rarer then most games for the console. However, being a Ninteno game, it's still not too bad.

I don't think DK3 is all that rare, when I looked on ebay there were a few, and pretty cheap at that. However, this was a while ago, I have no idea how it is now (and I'm to lazy to look).

UPDATE:

I checked out an area Funcoland this evening after work and found these:

3 Donkey Kong Classics = $12.99 each

1 Donkey Kong Math = $8.99

2 Donkey Kong 3 = $10.99 each

There were TONS of NES games, including about 8 Gold Legend of Zelda's, 2 Dragon Warrior III, 5 Adventure of Links, and more! No Atari whatsoever, though.

I knew DK3 wasn't too rare, I didn't know Dk math was rare at all.

That's what I thought. I'm sitting here reading that and thinking to myself "What is this tomfoolery?!". I'd figure a game with two classics on it would sell pretty well.

its a nice edition to a collection which is why it might be rare to find in the wild, and usually anything donkey kong is a collectible, but it isnt impossible to find thats for sure

I see the Donkey Kong Classics carts for sale rather frequently at my local Gamestop and PlanetX. They go for about $12.99. To me, they don't appear to be too rare. If anyone wants one, let me know and I'll pick up a copy the next time I'm out.

The DKC and the DKM issue is another example of supply and demand.

DKM is typically harder to find than is DKC, but nobody wants DKM. I've found three times as many DKC's as I have DKM's.

Just like Final Fantasy for NES. Why does it always go for $35-$50 a pop? There were a zillion of them made. It's because people that have them keep them and people that want them will pay a premiuim when they can get them.
