what do you think of the game 2600 Sentinel?

Recommended Posts

I happen to really like this game for the system. The game itself is huge and i can so close to beating it a few times. Thank goodness for the pause feature in it though. The gun works pretty well for it too. It's ashame the 2600 didn't see a few more light gone games before it's end.

yeah, I love it. Very fun. The gun isn't 100% accurate, but that's ok. I just sit really close to the screen. ;)

The gun just came too late in the life of the system. Then again, can you imagine what a light gun from the 1970's might have been like?

I had a Coleco Telstar Arcade pong system in the 70s that had a gun game. Gun games were in the arcades at a very early date, as they were the next evolution of the earlier electromechanical shooting games. Of course, not all console systems supported light guns. The Astrocade had a light pen port, btw but I don't think anything ever came out for it. 300 baud Bally Basic wound up using it to draw power from.

interesting info., because i didn't know light gun games were popular way back then. really cool to know.

I found the game way too easy for its own good. The one major problem with the game (aside from the Sentinel being so big) was that I constantly recieved a sore finger from having to press the trigger so many times ;)

too easy? man u must be sitting really close to the screen :-) I really enjoy sentinel, and with a -fair- distance betwixt yourself and the tellie, it's quite a good bit of challenging fun imho. I too wish there were more 2600 lightgun games... hack crossbow anyone?

The first console, the Odyssey ITL100 system had a light rifle accessory that came with two additional carts and overlays. I think it is strange the 2600 did not use it earlier as a concept. Atari arcades were using light guns way back when.

I could be sitting in Australia and it woudl still be way too easy. :D I always thought that it had been designed for five year olds in mind ;)

I disagree .. several generic pongs had light guns back in the late 1970s. But this thing was the "Video Computer System" ... a step up from pongs. And it worked with three kinds of controllers the first season. And the keyboards were introduced the second season. Maybe they nixed the light gun .. too many controllers .. too much confusion .. or too much boredom from shooting at the screen.

Atari didn't come out with light gun games for home consoles until NES did.
