King Atari #1 Posted February 16, 2002 I'm looking at rarity guides, and they say that the NES vesion of Superman is rare! How rare? Is it pretty sought after? I picked it up a few years ago, thought it was boring, and it's been sitting in my NES box ever since. So, do I have something special here? I might be able to trade it for something good! Raccoon Lad #2 Posted February 16, 2002 It's not too rare, and it's not really sought after either, so it's not very valuable. Right now, NES games are just beginning to become collectable, so the prices are quite low for most games, often some pretty rare games go for $5 on ebay. Junie #4 Posted February 16, 2002 I collect games for Any video game system, I just spend more money on Atari than anything else I currently have games for 11 different video game systems, my newest is a standard Playstation, and my oldest is a Atari 2600 Heavy Sixer MIB My rariest game right now for the NES is Little Nemo: The Dream Master I've had it since it first came out, it's a lot of fun and I play it quite often. Recently I found out it is a rariety of B+ ( B+ = Much Rarer (Formerly R+) )

Recently I found out it is a rariety of B+ ( B+ = Much Rarer (Formerly R+) ) I don't want to sound negative, but the rarity of Little Nemo is really quite overstated. While it is a good game and all, I come accross it all of the time through the GOAT Store. Someone should really write a new NES rarity guide... one which doesn't list Stadium Events as a B+ too (perhaps the rarest mass-released NES game). Lemmi #6 Posted February 17, 2002 This is from the usual NES rarity guide, i dont hold it as gospel, but it can give you an idea to what to keep your eye out for Tetris (Tengen)- A Micro Machines (Camerica) A- Quattro Arcade (Camerica) A- Stunt Kids (Camerica) A- Arkanoid (Taito) B+ Arkanoid Controller (Taito) A I find the above ones kinda funny Impossible Mission 2 (SEI) B+

I really don't care about the rariety of any game, I buy games simply to play not because they are rare. So no matter if it is rated a F or an A, I got it to play Then again I buy anything video game related as long as the price is good, that's how I have games for 11 different systems, and only own 9 different systems (With many system repeats, for example I own 3 SNES systems-- 2 of the standard and 1 of the newer style). King Atari #8 Posted February 17, 2002 Speaking of newer style SNES, does anyone remember the newer style NES? I found an NES timeline, and it has no mention of it. I can't find the system anywhere, is it pretty obscure?

While I have some rare items (2600 Ram It, NES Tengen Tetris) they aren't in very good condition, but it doesn't matter - I can play them. Likewise, perhaps my favorite game in my collection is Super Mario Bros. 3, which was the first game I ever bought on the day that it came out. It isn't rare, but I still will sit down and play the whole game through from time to time because it is so great.

Of course if the label is in excellent conditon, with box and/or manual that's just a added bonus I still have my Mario Bros. 3 that I bought new in the store as well, still play it too With all the talk about Little Nemo: The Dream Master, I had to play it. I played the game this morning and beat the game. I always use my Game Genie (Game Genie or GameShark with my other systems as well) whenever possiable. I think when you don't have to worry about running out of lifes and stuff, it makes the game more fun and enjoyable-- You get a chance to explore more and take chances, or do silly things to see what will happen
King Atari #11 Posted February 18, 2002 quote: Yes I remember it very well, my wife's brother owns one. I read an article on it, and I think it would be kind of cool to have in a collection (although the premise is really, really, sick).
Jeffy Arensmeyer #12 Posted February 20, 2002 Rarity primarily boils down to where you live: Bottom Line It seems that the east coast and northeast are saturated with good games that are typically listed as "rare". Even though there are several very populated areas near me, most don't have good selections of rare games. I get out and hit the pawn shops, yard sales, trade days, thrift stores, and privately owned video stores, but there's just not a lot out there. Don't get me wrong. I've made some really good finds, but they are the holy grails most of the time and the only reason I get them is because no one else even knew they were worth anything. And of course, this evolves into the "how much is too much to pay for a game?" question that I see a lot. It all depends on what lengths you would have to go to in order to get a certain game. If it's sitting at Funcoland for $8.00, then $10 on eBay is too much, especially after shipping. But since the nearest Funcoland is 70 miles away, 10 bucks plus $3.50 shipping isn't too bad once I consider gas and lunch on the road. As far as Superman goes, it's a fun game, but the characters look like squashed Final Fantasy people. Rare? I never saw that many in stores and there were definitely not many abroad around here. Something to ponder... ò¿ó
King Atari #13 Posted February 20, 2002 quoteAs far as Superman goes, it's a fun game, but the characters look like squashed Final Fantasy people. Yeah, what was up with that? Didn't the programmers care enough to make some decent looking people?
+-^CrossBow^- #14 Posted February 21, 2002 Hmm...Lemmi says "This is from the usual NES rarity guide, i dont hold it as gospel, but it can give you an idea to what to keep your eye out for Tetris (Tengen)- A Micro Machines (Camerica) A- Quattro Arcade (Camerica) A- Stunt Kids (Camerica) A- Arkanoid (Taito) B+ Arkanoid Controller (Taito) A I find the above ones kinda funny Impossible Mission 2 (SEI) B+ " What is funny about all of this...is that Funco currently still has a copy of Arkanoid and Impossible Mission 2...both I think are like 4.99 for MI2 and 7.99 for Arkanoid. No controller...but still for semi rare games...I have actually seen both of them several times in the wild..and usually it is Funco who has them. Lemmi #15 Posted February 21, 2002 Crossbow: yup, that list is the games ive got from funcoland around my area, but the Arkanoid and controller i payed $14 total for both at the local trade center and ive only seen arkanoid once at funcoland, but i was broke at the time and i wanted the controller as well which i havent seen at funcoland since the early days and they wanted $30 total for both back then
King Atari #16 Posted February 21, 2002 I'm pretty sure I've seen Akranoid at my Funco, I'll have to check this weekend.

I passed on it for Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game ($6.99) and Hardball! (89 cents!), both for Genesis.
