RAM - Random Access Memories - Linux update

Recommended Posts

I finally did get my copies of Ubuntu Linux from Ubuntu.com and your not going to believe this they came from of all places France. They sent me 5 sets of discs. Each set contains 1 install disc and 1 live CD, the Live CD I already tried out on my current PC and I find that it is a pretty good OS and I will be installing it, when I finally get around to getting that power supply. So far I only given 2 away, I am still debating what to do with the 2 extra ones I know find that I have.

But there is one thing worth mentioning about the Live CD, it has a Windows option. Meaning if you place it into your CD/DVD drive while Windows is running a little window pops up on the screen and you will get the option to install Windows version of 3 open source programs.

Open Office, which is GREAT. I had problems with Mircosoft Word one of which is with their spellcheker. I may not be the greatest speller, but I at least like to know the correct spelling of that word, which Word XP would not give me, it was either correct all mispelled words or forget it. When your like me, trying to write a story with some made up names, and often times words, the spellchecker doesn't have those names or words ..you see my problem. Open Office does with a simple right click and you can even add words just as easy. 2 things that can't be said about Word. So out with Word, and in with Open Office. I even threw away my back up copies of Mircosoft Word. Let me add something your don't know about Open Office when you install the program your given some options , which includes installing companants that can handle both Excel and Power point documents.

Firefox

Gaim, an open source IM program which if the info that comes with it is right. This program works with all IM servers. I currently don't use any IM so this stays on the disc
