NovaXpress #1 Posted April 14, 2006 We have a very large store called Nebraska Furniture Mart (owned by Warren Buffet). Starting tomorrow they'll be selling the full system for $399 with no interest for 22 months. Is this happening anywhere else? Is the price starting to drop already? dalton4life #2 Posted April 14, 2006 (edited) That's not really a price drop. It's just 0% interest for 22 months unless they giving some kind of bundle. The Premium or just Xbox 360 as MS calls it now has been $399.99 since launch. Edited April 14, 2006 by dalton4life
Starscream #3 Posted April 14, 2006 (edited) Best Buy had 12 months last week IIRC. And Nova...how much did you think 360's were anyways? Edited April 14, 2006 by Starscream
moycon #4 Posted April 14, 2006 I'm convinced Nova bumped his head at some point this week. Hard.
NovaXpress #5 Posted April 14, 2006 Dammit. Make that $299 for the full set, this weekend only. Better?
moycon #6 Posted April 14, 2006 That would be a great price. Where did you obtain this information? Radio or TV ad? Printed flyer or news paper ad? The reason I ask is if it's printed material it's possible it's a misprint. If it's like a TV ad or something, would be curious if they'll give rainchecks and if they have more than 1 unit in stock.... if not they'll probaby pay the $100 themselves because of the draw the advertising will bring in or maybe they are one of those stores that doesn't mind taking a loss on selling a videogame console because they know they'll make up the money from the built in Burger King. The web-site search doesn't pull a hit for Xbox 360 at all, there is an old page that says they are sold out: http://www.nfm.com/xbox360.asp In any case here's the number for the Omaha Appliance & Electronic Sales department. (402) 392-3228 So should be really easy to figure out whas going on by just calling them.
chrisbid #7 Posted April 14, 2006 if this is true, i doubt it they will last more than 10 minutes
NovaXpress #8 Posted April 14, 2006 I'm dropping by the store later. I wouldn't be getting one (though even at full price they'd be sold out now) but I did get a check today and I need a little Game Cube love before I finally stick it that system the closet. I heard this from a friend who saw the sign in the store. Nebraska Furniture Mart runs some wild specials for people who hold Berkshire Hathaway stock, so I'm betting it's one of those. Last year for one day they sold ALL videogame-related items for 40% off, for BH members only. I need some Berkshire stock. It's trading at only $86,700 per share at the moment. The purpose of furniture stores these days isn't to sell furniture, it's to sell the loans to buy the furniture. You know how it works... you get "no interest" for so many months, but if you have even one dollar left on your account when that time expires, WHAM, you get hit with retroactive interest for the whole period. This also sounds like a great loss leader to get people in there to put something else on the loan, too.

Oh well in that case, to answer your original question. No They didn't drop the retail price of the Xbox 360. That would be a Nebraska Furniture Mart special. That's the special where they cater to rich old folks and are willing to take a loss because the know anyone with stock like that would pick up a $6,999.99 dining room set when they purchase their $299.99 Xbox 360. I heard there is a "B" stock available now which is valued at 1/10 of 1 share. I believe you still get all the perks for owning one, including Warren's yearly shareholders meeting/dinner. See: http://quote.morningstar.com/Quote.html?ticker=BRK.B The B stock is currently at $2893; it was at $1020 ten years ago and hasn't been higher than $3133 in that span. Last year, it earned $184.60 per share: around 6%, on par with many mutual funds but not really standing out for that one year. Apparently there is a (sort of) affordable way to invest like Warren... if fatherhood wasn't so damn expensive at present (and the wife didn't have a slew of home renovations in mind, and if the second car wasn't ten years old, etc...) I might look into it. I wasn't aware of the B stock until De Butcher's post. -Eric
NovaXpress #13 Posted April 16, 2006 I don't know what the hell was going on. A friend of mine went there around noon on Friday and was told that the 360s came off the truck that morning and were sold out that morning. They were offering discounts on the peripherals. If a share of Class B stock would get me the perks, then I need to look into it. Berkshire Hathaway owns most of Omaha and dominates quite a bit of the rest of the world (Dairy Queen, Burger King, Coca-Cola, Budweiser, the world's gold supply). The breaks at NFM would be worth it. To get a picture: Nebraska Furniture Mart is actually five or six buildings, each over twice the size of a Super WalMart. This is not a normal store. Their electronics building kicks ass.
RxRated #14 Posted April 17, 2006 I found out about it from my brother who has lived in Omahell since the mid eighties. He said owning B stock gets you all the "perks" but I have no proof of that. I DO know owning B stock gets you an invite to Warren's annual shareholder meeting. He speaks for about an hour about investing etc., then they throw a huge party. Their electronics building kicks ass. Most all of the furniture comes from here in Hickory, or from High Point, NC. You can have it shipped from here cheaper than buying it anywhere. We have literally thousands of factory outlets, and the Hickory Furniture Market.

The Premium or just Xbox 360 as MS calls it now has been $399.99 since launch. thats not a sale..its the regular price...as for the 22 month financing(we had that in chicago as well).thats gimmick to drum up their credit card sales . just pay it off once, and you dont have to worry its yours now end of story its crazy paying interest on a video game system...wake up..this is a scam. a video game system is NOT a major purchase . i love a good system same as everybody else..but there is something out there called REAL LIFE as well. my friend did the financing for his 360 and his fiance almost kicked him out of their apartment when she found out..she said "How old are you little boy" ??!! LOL it was funny, but she was right . is it going to be the following..HMMM should i pay my rent ,or my car payment or go into debt for a video game system that will be obsolete in 3-4 yrs anyway reality check .
