Rik #1 Posted April 14, 2006 Hi, I just finished playing Colecovision Venture.I have never played a game with a character as hard to control as this game,is bad control a known issue in this game,or is it my controllers?I just have 2 controllers, they seem alright in other games, not perfect though,BUT AFTER 24 YEARS,what controller is ,it just seems worse when playing Venture.Thanks. p.s I think I have less hair on my head from playng Venture! +else #2 Posted April 14, 2006 (edited) I never had a problem with it. But then again we had it as a kids and we played the heck out of it! So I may just be used to it.... Edited April 14, 2006 by else
Pixelboy #3 Posted April 14, 2006 The standard CV controller is not very good for diagonal movements. If you want to have an easier time with Venture, approach all enemies using up/down and left/right movements only. Only use diagonal movements to exit a room (after picking up the treasure) when the path between you and the door is clear of enemies.
+Omegamatrix #4 Posted April 14, 2006 Venture brings a lot of good memories back for me. If I played it now for the first time I'm not sure it would have the same effect on me as it did, becausae the controls would probably be too frustrating. You have to point in the direction that you want to shoot (which also causes you to move). Often I died by running into monsters while trying to shoot them. Still a classic though. jetset #5 Posted April 14, 2006 I've tried with several controllers and it's all the same. when you're in the outside hallways, the "dot" character moves and responds perfectly, but once inside the room it's extremely difficult. I've had the best luck with Genesis controllers. They're still far from enjoyably but a lot better than any other controllers. Great port too.
NovaXpress #6 Posted April 14, 2006 The arcade version played pretty much the same way. Winky's clumsiness keeps the game from becoming too easy.

BydoEmpire #13 Posted April 15, 2006 I love Venture. But it is pretty frustrating using the stock controllers. Get the stick (the Sports Controller, or whatever it's called) and it plays way, way better. Then again, pretty much every game plays better with it, imho

Rik #19 Posted April 23, 2006 (edited) Does the joystick option work for you? I can only use the keyboard... You have to go to "control panel" on your pc,click on "gaming options",and configure your gamepad, joystick there, just make sure you have a controller connected to your card first,im using win/98se,I could only use keyboard also, until I did this simple config.,I'm using 15 pin analog game port logitech wingman precision gamepd, that is plugged into my soundblaster 16 PCI ,works great for me! I agree, this game kicks ass. It weould make a nice 5200 or 7800 port...although the graphics wouldn't be as good in some cases.
