rheffera #1 Posted April 16, 2006 I was just playing Centipede and i notice a wierd glitch: Many infact. 1. the score counter was backwards, i.e the numbers were like i was looking at a reflection in a mirror 2. All the sprites were Reversed too.. 3. Centipede was travelling the wrong way and some body segments were reversed in places.. Has this happend to anyone else? If not then it appears i have a rare programming error! The Cart is a silver label atari Centipede
Tempest #2 Posted April 16, 2006 That is a known result of Frying a Centipede cartridge. It shouldn't happen every time though. Tempest
rheffera #3 Posted April 16, 2006 When you say "frying"..when would the damage have occured? It plays ok tho, and has been that way since ive had it...
Tempest #4 Posted April 17, 2006 No, not really. Frying just means that the data in the cart wasn't initalized properly before the game started. Usually when you turn on the 2600, the data registers in the game are reset with some base values. However, sometimes when you rapidly turn the power off and on or something goes wacky with the 2600, the data doesn't get reset properly and strange things happen in the game. This will only last until you turn off the 2600 and turn it on again. There's no damage to the game, but purposely trying to do this by flicking the power off and on can damage the 2600 on rare occasions. Tempest

mvigor #6 Posted April 20, 2006 I have an idea that your cartridge would play normally on a different machine.

+Nathan Strum #10 Posted April 21, 2006 Could be a dirty cartridge connector causing intermittent contact.
