Help! Super Famicom and SNES

Recommended Posts

There is a lot of knowledge in the brains of all you guys here, so, I am making another appeal for help.

Can you play Super Famicom games in a SNES? Do you need some kind of adapter? I don't really know much about anything Nintendo so your help would be appreciated. Feel free to point out ANY information you want

Also, is there some kind of FAQ for Super Famicom/SNES anywhere on the net? I have searched for one, but, I can not seem to find one.

Well, you can eitehr get an adaptor to play them, or you can go into the cart slot and remove these two plastic pegs yourself. Basically those pegs are what keeps you from putting in Japanese carts. Remove em, and you can stick them in. I use an adaptor though, I'm in no mood to go through the trouble, and I got an adaptor from my friend anyhow

Yes you can, but you need to consider to do some modifications to your console, there are 3 methods those greedy guys at BigN used:

a) Circuit Lockout: chip inside.

b) Physical lockout: you need to cut two small tabs inside your console.

c) Shape lockout: For Europe.

I found a useful link for you with lots of info on the compatibility issue:

SNES-SFC Compatibility

Good Luck.

I have buy me an NTSC Super Nintendo. And I have only cut these 2 tabs out.

Now I can play PAL games on my Super Nintendo PAL and NTSC and Japanese games on my NTSC Super Nintendo.

Work fine by me.

It's simple really. The SNES has those two little plastic strips that are near the cart port. Simply break those plastic strips with a pair of strong pliers and you have a universal system.

There isn't any sort of region lockout in the SNES or Super Famicom. All games will play on either unit regardless.

I think not.

There are 2 systems.

PAL & NTSC.

So you need a PAL and a NTSC Super Nintendo.

Then you can play Japanese games on the NTSC system too, but not PAL on the NTSC.

Or....you could just cut 2 notches in any Japanese carts you want to play on an NA system.

BUT PLEASE DON'T!!!!

I am getting real sick of finding Super Famicom carts with these notches cut into them....

....and I am not afraid to use MONKEY POWER!
