ManShowBoy #26 Posted April 19, 2006 Oh, what a shame...I guess I won't be able to get .01-.50 cents trade in credit for my PS1 and N64 games now I can't stand ebgames/gamestop with the way they assrape people.
8th lutz #27 Posted April 19, 2006 (edited) People!!!! Let us remember that Gamestop and EB Games are both corporate game stroes, and they don't like to cater to the classic gaming crowd. Hopefully there are smaller, local game shops where you live that sell games from ALL systems, maybe even imports. Then again, there is always EBAY! I persinally have never been able to stand either EB Games or Gamestop, and this is enother reason for me to hate them even more. I know they're not supposed to. I know there is a merger between those 2 corporate games stores. I haven't relied on them for a while. Eb was good for geting a couple used ps1 games a few years back for games like Raiden Project. Gamestops amount of games for used ps1 went down about 3 years ago in my area. Funcoland was responsible for these corperate stores being looked at being "retro" a first place. Before gamestop took over, there was nes, saturn, genesis, snes, and game Gear games being sold used after the last "true" released game happened for those systems and for a time it was the same for virual boy, 32x and sega cd, and possibility the 3DO. Gamestop got funcoland after it was merged with them. They got a read of the systems that weren't main stream for retro, the saturn and I think gamegear was also. Sometime during the late 90's the 32x,sega cd and 3dO was no l nger sold at funco. The merger hurted saturn collector who started or were middle of starting their collections like my brother when the merger happned. He was forced to go on ebay for raymagic knight earth and a few other games. Edited April 19, 2006 by 8th lutz
z28in82 #28 Posted April 19, 2006 Well I'll chime in here as an defender here. I know that the trade in value is horrific on PS1 and N64 isn't all that great and do you really need to walk into an EB/GS and see 17 copies of madden 2000 for either system. Most people would rather sell PS1/N64 at yard sales and epay before trading them in there so it's not like you are missing out on a whole lot anyway cause most EB/GS have people who come in 2-3x a week and just look for the "rarer" games so that they can go and resell them on epay anyway. So now instead of paying $14.99 for a copy of Mario 64 you could get it at a yard sale from a mom who wants it out of the house for llike $2.
dalton4life #29 Posted April 19, 2006 Yard sales for me have been more miss than hit for me. I rarely find anything good. Pawnshops are where I make my N64 finds. I've bought many rare N64 games for $5 and then sold them on Ebay if they weren't games I wanted for my collection.
Crazy Climber #30 Posted April 19, 2006 A lady at a yard sale told me she had a big box of Atari stuff that I could have for free if I left contact info. I did and she never contacted me, my guess is Ebay got her.
darklord1977 #31 Posted April 26, 2006 (edited) From what we heard the last rumors were that the PS3 won't play PS1 games due to the BluRay but haven't heard official word from Sony yet. blu ray is a crock like the umd format(which is a joke , why would you want to watch films on that small psp screen anyway! )..thats whats causing the problems in the hardware and delaying the ps3 now they are saying it might not be out until sometime in 2007 dont know if its true though, but i would not be surprised..i was talking to a gamestop manager recently and she said their office was told that the possible price for the ps3 is a whopping 700.00 (us) not including tax ! and thats not in a "bundle pack" either! my cousin workes at circuit city and she was told the same thing ..thats a fricking rip off .. i hear lots of good things of the ps3 though as well..but c mon , thats wayyyyy to much for a video game system..thats more than my rent geesh! i mean im looking forward to the ps3 like everybody else, but im not willing to go broke on it and dont forget about the games that are rumored to be more than the 360 ..which are 50-60 dollars already, what are we looking at 70-up? just for a game.. thats pathetic..you can see the greed from sony popping up there but i know its business but, they have to make their prices equal to microsoft for the merchandise to sell. as for the ps3 not playing the ps1 games she was told that its very possible it wont..so hold onto your ps2 systems you will still need it, i cant wait til E3 to see what sony says about all of this.. n8littlefield #32 Posted April 26, 2006 Holy crap...first of all, the PS3 will not be $700. The highest estimates have been $500 (although IIRC with conversion factored in $700 may be close to the cost in Europe). And seriously, the PS3 has already been confirmed backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2. As someone else pointed out, there are a lot of CD based PS2 games, Sony won't break compatibility with that many PS2 games. The amount of "insider" knowledge that Gamestop managers & employees have is absolutely NONE.

lkermel #34 Posted April 27, 2006 Eb & Gamestop stop taking trades for ps1 and n64 games ? too bad for them. I've been going to a local Gamestop for sometime now and they've been selling their N64 games, loose, for $12-$15. And at this price, no wonder they can not sell them. Anyway, I do not like EB & GameStop much, it is often cheaper for me to get my games from Ebay, including postage. Holy crap...first of all, the PS3 will not be $700. The highest estimates have been $500 That can not be real ! Especially when new-gen games will (or are if we look at the 360) more expensive at $60+
shadow460 #35 Posted April 27, 2006 Gamestop overcharged for their N64 titles anyway. Most of their labels were half destroyed, and they still wanted 8 to 10 bucks for the carts. I have scrubbed for hours trying deparately to remove some of the toxic waste from carts they actually took in. Although I did get a good deal on Aidyn Chronicles from them--that was definitely cool.
