ubersaurus #1 Posted February 21, 2002 I was wondering if Randy at Hozer would make a copy of this for me, (at an extra cost of course), but before I even bother asking, has anyone here tried it? Does a Dragon Warrior cart work? I could send along the cart too ;p
AlanD #2 Posted February 22, 2002 I've done it and here are the directions I typed up about it. Believe me Tecmo Basketball is by far the cheapest, easy to find cart you can make it on that has the right mapper. DW won't work. Instructions: Earthbound Zero: - Board required: NES-TKROM-10 (Tecmo Basketball works) - Use 2 D27C2001D-15 or equivalents - Remove mask roms - Bend up pin 1, 2, 24 & 30 on PRG eprom - Solder into place of the masked rom. - Tie pins 1 & 32 together (+5) - Tie pins 22 & 24 together - Tie pin 2 & pin 24 hole together - Tie pin 30 & pin 1 hole together - Bend up pins 1, 2, 22, 24, 30 & 31 on CHR eprom - Solder into place of the masked rom. - Tie pins 1, 31 & 32 together (+5) - Tie pin 30 & pin 1 hole together - Tie pin 24 & pin 2 hole together - Tie pin 2 & pin 24 hole together - Tie pin 22 & pin 31 hole together There ya go Anyone with minimal solder skills and the capability to burn a rom should be able to do it. I however will not do it for anyone for less than $150 per cart. No offense to you but I really don't want to be flooded with orders so I have intentionally priced it well beyond what any normal person should be willing to pay for a bootleg. I don't have the free time for it any longer. I will send anyone that wants them the directions as well as the instructions to make Robocop Vs Terminator, Sweet Home, Drac's Night Out and Hero's Quest. I am trying to get a Free Fall cart working but no luck yet. I have made a few other carts but haven't made any docs up yet on building them. ubersaurus #3 Posted February 22, 2002 Thanks, I'm going to try this out! Basically, I never get around to playing them games on emulation, I need a real cart. Anyhow, wouldn't I need to add a battery to save? Since it's pointless to do so otherwise.
AlanD #4 Posted February 22, 2002 No problem at all. Glad I could help. If you have any technical questions about building, do feel free to email me [email protected] and ask and I'll do what I can to help you out. On a technical note, you need a set of security bits to get into the cart. MCM Electronics has them and the catalog number is 22-1476 and the cost is $9.99 These will pretty much let you open any Nintendo or Sega console and their carts. Also the chips that I mention above are sorta hard to find so whoever is doing the work may need to get a generic 2 Mbit eprom and then compare the pinouts and add whatever jumpers may be required. As I recall only 2 jumpers would have to be added tho it has been a while and my notes are not in front of me. Hope that helps, AlanD
AlanD #5 Posted February 22, 2002 Oops forgot to mention that Tecmo Basketball does have a battery backup in it so you will be able to save your game. If you want the list of all the other carts that are also suitable as 'donor' carts just let me know. Alan
ubersaurus #6 Posted February 22, 2002 Lay the list on me, I may have some extras laying around.
ubersaurus #7 Posted February 22, 2002 I have a few of those, but no doubles, so I'll go search for a Tecmo Basketball this weekend. One more question. Should I use the raw dump of the game, and more important, where can I find that? the Demiforce page that it was once at has kinda vanished.
AlanD #8 Posted February 22, 2002 Well I did a quick search and found the rom at this site. I downloaded and ran it and it seems to be an English version but play it and see if it is the one you want. To get the data for the chips you need to find the program TNINES. I think it is at Zophar's page under the NES Utilities. Then you go to DOS and with both TNINES and mother.nes in the same directory type: TNINES -s mother.nes That will split the rom into the parts you need. You will end up with a .hdr, a .prg and a .chr file. The .hdr is the header file and is useless for what you want to do. The .prg is the program data to burn onto the new chip. The .chr file is the character data for the new chip. Burn the chips, solder as required and play the game AlanD
AlanD #9 Posted February 23, 2002 Here you go: Wario Woods Tecmo Basketball Baseball Stars 2 Kirbys Adventure Might & Magic Pool of Radiance Tecmo Super Bowl Gold Medal Challenge Wizardry 2 Knight of Diamonds All these are battery backed up with the correct mapper. Gold Medal Challenge and Tecmo Super Bowl shouldn't be too difficult either. I was basing my statement on the relative ease of finding one and the price that Funco charges which is where I normally grab donors from. Alan
ubersaurus #10 Posted March 1, 2002 Tell me, ever make a Solar Wars cart? this is a great homebrew.
AlanD #11 Posted March 2, 2002 Never tried but it is a small game and think it is a direct solder into an early cart. I'd have to do some research for which boards it uses. AlanD
ubersaurus #12 Posted March 4, 2002 Check the website. It lists a few games that are compatible.
