VidGameKing #1 Posted February 26, 2002 I just bought a odyssey for $5 USD at a local thrift store! wholey moley! The only problem is, It didnt come with the TV/Game switch and it uses a strnage conector. so if anyone has a spare TV/game switch for the odyssey I'd be willing to pay 10-20 bucks and shipping to buy it from you thanx! You know I went in to look for atari parts and I found some, 2600 power adaptor working paddles two driving controlers all the parts work great wich is surprising to me because the usually dont work from this thrift store. You can pick one of those up at Radio Shack for around $8. Or, just get a "phono to 'F' connector" from the shack for $2, plug the Odyssey input in the female phono connector and screw the "F" connector into the cable outlet. Works like a charm, and you get a great picture, to boot. When I bought my Odyssey 2, it came with a huge, white R/F switch. However, it worked the same as the one I used for my Atari and ColecoVision systems. The design was just different.

VidGameKing #6 Posted February 26, 2002 It isn't a Odyssey2 it's a Odyssey just plain Odyssey the it's not their pong units it's not O2 it's the original with television overlays, funky controllers, a shotgun, play money, and casino chips, and dice. It's as old as they get, it was made in 1972!!!!!! thats what the manufacuter date says on the bottem 11-19-1972 I was looking at websites and alot of collectors say that there is only 5,000 or less of these. here if you want to take a look at it here is a web sit that has lots of pics of it: ODYSSEY Does anyone have a spare RF cord/Switch for it? paul #8 Posted February 27, 2002 if you will post a picture of what the rf box looks like, i might be able to get you one. a couple weeks ago i saw an original odyssey at a thrift store, but it was priced at $20 and looked in pretty bad shape. i was at the same store last weekend and saw a weird rf box where the system had been before. this could be what you need. zanza #12 Posted February 27, 2002 Marialover you're a really lucky guy These Odyssey 1 are really scarce to find , so for five bucks it's a real steal I remember six months ago. one sold on Ebay for around 500 $ If only in Europa we could find some of these rare gems in thrift store !.....but it never happen
VidGameKing #13 Posted February 27, 2002 I feel happy with my find, but you know what, This thing is a real peice of history! My friend turns out owning one too, so I went over to play with it with him, It's like playing a board game but the TV is the board! It's so, old fashion! I love the idea of having one of the original video games, but playing it may be beyond me! I still want a complete collection. I'm thinking now that I want to have one of EVERY video game system EVER, how hard would that be to acomplish? I have the money I just need the time. VidGameKing #14 Posted February 27, 2002 i'm going to go back to the thrift store i found it at and look to see if they have it on a shelf around someplace. Because they had a considerable amount of tv/game switches just hanging on a wall. I'm also going to go try some other places.
geogray #15 Posted February 27, 2002 I had one of the originals too. My switch box broke, and, being a rather thrifty soul, I spliced on a normal cable-type connecter and used a generic switch box from one of the numerous pong games I had accumalated. So, if you don't mind splicing the cable, these work just fine. Great find, btw. Wish I still had mine!

paul #17 Posted March 3, 2002 i checked back at the thrift store where i saw the odyssey. the system was still there, but i couldn't find the tv adapter anywhere. sorry. i will keep checking, it may turn up. and for those in the san diego area, if you want the odyssey (priced at $20.95), it's at the plaza thift store (on plaza blvd) in national city, by the back wall on top of a microwave. i have no interest in it. they also have a boxed odyssey2 (priced at $40.95) behind the counter. will let you know if i find the tv adapter.
