The first I recall for sure is DOOM. I THINK Sonic the Hedgehog for the old Sega Master System may have had some too. I don't recall any Atari VCS or Inty games though. I am wrong, though, I'm sure.

That's an interesting question. The most memorable background music is probably that in Pitfall II for the 2600. However, other 2600 games also made good use of music, such as Gyruss, Mountain King, Journey Escape, the various Star Wars games, and certainly others I'm forgetting about.
