PORTABLE 2600? ...Is this just a pipe dream?

Recommended Posts

I remember seeing a site years back with a portable VCS....this guy had MADE one, and was selling it for something like $1000. :ponder: Did any of the Asian pirate companies or otherwise ever MAKE one? Like the GameAxe? I'd LOVE a handheld VCS...omg would I ever! :lust: I dont mean those ones that you hook up to a TV, no no no....one with its own SCREEN...like a GameBoy or Lynx. Anyone have ANY info on a possible "handheld 2600" ?? I know that the GG has a TV Tuner...in fact I have two of those myself..and that you can hook up other things via the AV port...but...I'm NOT an "electronics sort"...so...

Regards,

Neville

Pretty sure his name was Ben Heck and the portable 2600 was called the Phoenix. Unfortunetly I think he only made about 30 and numbered them. They sold quick and I dont know if he is making any more. I would sure love to get one though.

THE OFFICIAL SITE OF BENJAMIN J HECKENDORN

He's still making them.

There are tutorials and forums on his site.

He's written a book called "Hacking Videogame Consoles", published by Wiley Publishing Inc. under their ExtremeTech series, available at a bookstore near you and online.

Ben Heckendorn's portable 2600 design is the Phoenix, and no - he is no longer making any at the moment.

And yes, I do have one and it's quite nice ;)

How did you get one if you dont mind me asking, did he do an auction like thing or was he selling them on his site? By the time I found out about them they were no longer availible.

He had it mentioned on his site, I was on the waiting list, but I got caught up with financial stuffs that took the money away for the Phoenix (my now ex gf and I moved in together).
