if they did talk about a dumb move no offense... and they have already pledged out of the sytem wars after their failures.. sega cant afford to go to bankrupsy again... and they are doing better now then they did with their own system as far as profit goes, so i have a good hunch that your rumor is very very false.

Hate to burst everyone's bubble, but ... the Sega Hedgehog article was originally posted on 4/1.

 

The only reason it's getting any attention is because it was posted on a french site, and it wasn't translated until a week or 2 later, so the english-speaking world didn't hear about it until well after April Fools.

sega is awesome!!!!! im sick of people putting down sega. people that talk like this dont know their ass from their elbow....why does sega suck? ..can somebody have a intelligent response to that back up what you say ..so they dont have a gay sounding name for a system like wii...they still kick ass in the game department and in the arcades and thats what its all about..the games

Seriously folks, I caught this interview with a SEGA rep sometime ago on CNN, and when the interviewer said that same question. That SEGA rep actually got mad, and said in no uncertain terms that Sega was a software company, and not in the hardware business.

 

I for one think Sega is a great company, they have given us so many marvelous games. They also haven't made any fuss at all about any of their roms on the net. If rumour has it some of their programmers even posted Quake on DCemulation.com I am looking foreward to many of their new games, which we well get a preview of thanks to E3. As for Sonic on the PS3 this is what making me think of actually buying a PS3.

I agree with you, well except for the wii part, lol. But I used to think that sega wasnt that great either when I was younger and the sega saturn was on the horizon. I remember people making fun of it all the time like it was the worst thing ever built. I think becuase of that stuck in my head all these years I didnt get into sega until a few years ago, but boy im glad I did. The Dreamcast was my first and I went backwards in order, saturn being my ultimate favorite out of them all.

 

I love being a sider for Nintendo, but im even happier showing my pride as a sega lover. They might have made some mistakes but no one can ever successfully show that their games esp their arcade conversions werent fun as hell to play

Even back in the day Sega only made 1 successful console which was the worst 16 Bit console, the genesis. It was nothing compared to Amiga or Snes. I even think that $onic is a stupid copy of Mario, just looks "cooler" (I don't know why everybody thinks he is cooler than Mario, he saves cute little animals, Mario CRUSHES them!). Then again this is just my opinion, for me sega doesn't know how to make games and Nintendo>Sony>>>>>>>>>sega. Again, IMHO.

Well I love Mario as much as the next person, but the day i think Sonic is a Mario clone is a cold day in hell. BTW Sonic kills many creatures, and Mario saves the same damn girl over and over... if you want to call Sonic lame, then I guess mario is too in your mind (even though they both rock). And many systems are good and many are bad, but what makes the bad ones good are games, and the genesis did just fine with that, if you want proof look at people's collections here. And as far as their other systems go, they're were many many great games made for them as well, im still not done collecting for them and my shelves are about to collapse. And if sonic rush, sonic gems, feel the magic, f-zero gx, and super monkey ball arent great games id hate to know what you think are! IMHO

you gotta be kidding?? the genesis was the worst?? i dont think so... it was far better than the c64,snes and amiga.. face it mario is sooo played out hes been used in almost every game type imaginable im not saying he was a bad character but he was overexposed...when i saw sonic i said finally a new character! and to be honest i still play sonic today. and enjoy them more than mario...

I prefer Mario to Sonic, but think the Genesis was better than the SNES.

 

Sure the SNES had really awesome AV hardware for the time, but it didn't have the power to show it off.

The Genesis had a vastly superior processor and it let the system sling a lot more stuff around without terminal slowdown, as well as letting it do scaling and rotation effects in software and with fewer limitations than the SNES' famous mode 7.

I suppose I should say my current preferences leave me prefering the Genesis.

I had an SNES first too. Was ages before I got my Genny, and realized how stupid I was all those years running around waving my Nintendo Fanboy flag.

That goes back to the AV hardware. SNES games looked prettier because they had a massively larger color pallete to work with. 32768 colors instead of 512, with the official max onscreen at once = 256 and 64(both barriers were broken, so the official maxes don't mean much).

Also had more background layers, depending on video mode.

 

SNES sound hardware was a lot better, too.

Sure the Genny had that distinct FM synth and PSG sound, but it was lousy quality.

The SNES had a more modern sample-playback system, and way better DAC/amplification phase.

 

But then again I know ill get beat up by saying something like that, lol, but just an opinion. I still love my cdx though esp for the cd games.

SegaCD was what broke my fanboy-dom. Saw Lunar(was an RPG whore at the time) and went from "Genesis has no good games" to "Genesis has ONE good game." But it was good enough that I had to have the hardware(bought it from my cousin).

From there, I had a Genesis, so I figured I may as well try some of the other software. And lo and behold, it DIDN'T all suck.

No sega's stuff is far from sucking, but no matter how attached i get to my sega systems, nintendo always has a place for me in battling for my love of 1st place console company. It honestly will depend what day it is.. sometimes i say my saturn is my fav (which is today), other times my DS. Either way, whatever good and bad things you say to compair the two companies and their systems, they both did and do a beautiful job in making software and hardware. And seeing a multi-system handheld would be every sega fan's dream come true, even though i seriously doubt it will happen no matter what Sega has said.

 

And btw, another reason why it took me so long to ge a genesis is becuase i grew up with people having the first generation genesis, and i thought it always look so cluttered and ugly compaired to the cleaner looking snes. I thought about a genesis 2 (never a 3), but right before i did, the opportunity for a cdx came in view, and i fell in love with it the moment i saw it, its truley every sega 32 bit fan's dream in my mind.

You claimed sega had one sucessful system. You are mistaken. The sms was very sucessful in Europe. The sms in Europe had bid advantage over the us in nintendo having no 3rd party restiction in Europe. The sms sold over 10 million systems worldwide. Most of the units sold for the nes came from Japan or the U.s. The sms in the united States had the disavantage of 3d parties not being allowed to develop or publish games for any system outside of any nintendo system. The sms in the states sold 2-3 million systems in the states despite having little 3rd party support. If the sms had the 3rd party support like the nes, the sms would be in a close battle against the nes in the states. The sms had some good and great games in the states. The sms games in Europe should be compared to the nes games in the states.

 

You sound like a true snes fanboy. As a owner of the snes and the genesis, a real videogame player by now sould have booth systems. Booth have great games. The snes had better graphics and sound then then the genesis. The genesis was the faster system and made it better system for some types of games like shooters. The snes had an advantage of zelda type games during most of the 16 bit era. You oly said the amiga because it was not true rival to your beloved snes. The amiga was a computer not a game console that happens to play a lot of games. Computers are ysually better then video game consoles in technical specs the game consoles in the technical department and that is why computers are more expensive then a game console. Even when genesis was released, all the specs the amiga had would've been too expensive for the genesis. The genesis would've cost 400 or 500 dollars at least in the states instead of being in the 200 dollar range when it first came out if it had amiga's specs.

 

Sonic games were great in the 16 bit era. Sonic hasn't been the same since. Mario has been exposed to much. Mario shouldn't be in so many types of games. I am shocked there is no Mario soccer yet. I liked Mario and his games from the 8 and 16 bit area.

 

I am a fanboy of playing good games. I have played of 500 games of different systems.
