Mister VCS

Colecovision-fans here?

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago I remembered my old CV - now I have "Coleco-fever".

I changed the internals from my white ADAM-controllers into the old broken

black CV-standard-controllers- now I have a perfect looking and working CV system.

Are the ADAM-controllers more durable than the CV ones? At the moment

my updated controllers are working perfect.

Now I am searching for the controller-overlays. Are there any web-sites to

print it out?

How knows good CV-websites ( not www.colecovision.com)?

Any german-speaking Coleco-fans here?

Heya.. Former ADAM owner here..

I think the controllers are the same durability on the ADAM as they were the CV...

There was a colecovision website very much like this one. I need to find the URL again.

I'm a ColecoVision fan and have a decent collection of CV hardware and software, but I can't stand the CV controllers. I suggest finding one of the third-party controllers, such as the ones made by Wico and Spectravision. This makes the games more enjoyable, in my opinion.

There aren't very many games that used the keypad overlays. Of all the companies that produced overlays for their system, Coleco was probably the worst offender in actually supporting them. I remember Mouse Trap came with overlays, and a few others, but the vast majority didn't. As for good ColecoVision sites, I haven't tried to hunt any down, but you could always start here:

Open Directory - Games: Video Games: Console Platforms: ColecoVision

I'm a Colecovision fan too and my collection is growing slowly as in Switzerland nobody ever seen one (ahem almost ) , so finding cartridges is difficult and I don't speak about the hardware (I bought all I have from eBay )

When I was a kid I remember to have seen ads in US mags for it before it was shipped (scarcely) to Europa and I was truly impressed by the "almost the same quality as real arcade" of Donkey Kong

But I love this console, except of course for the controllers, I don't even think they can deserve this name: they're the worst of the whole 8bit galaxy (except maybe the Intellivision controllers)

I found ages ago a site where the guy customized his Coleco by ripping off all the left part where resides both controllers but I can't remember where it was ?? If anybody know the URL, post it thanks

I had a bad experience with these goofballs too.

About a month and a half ago, they left a message on rec.games.video.classic stating that they were looking for non-working and flaky Colecovision consoles. Their message had indicated (to me atleast) that they were paying $15.00 per console, and $2.50 per console to cover shipping. At the time I had a ton of spare consoles, so I figured I'd make a deal with this guy.

So I e-mail him, and after some discussions, it was decided that I would send him 8 consoles and he would pay me via PayPal when he recieved them. I've always believed that the buyer should send the cash first, but I was willing to let it go because I thought I was getting a good deal.

We then discussed the possibility of me sending him other things as well.. controllers, power supplies, etc. I decided that he wasn't offering a good enough price, so I declined. I asked him if he'd be interested in some games, and asked him how much he paid. He said it depended on what game it was, and asked me to send him a list. So I send him a list of every spare game I have, and indicated that most games I have several copies of. [Well over 100 games]. At the time, I had atleast one spare copy of almost *EVERY* Colecovision game that had a Digital Press rarity guide of 1 and 5.

He then said.. "nothing too interesting there.. I'll give you $1 each". $1 each?!? I had stuff in there like Montezuma's Revenge and Mr. Do!'s Castle.. what the heck was he expecting me to have? Again, I politely declined, stating that I wasn't going to sell games that are in the DP guide at $20 for $1. He then e-mailed me back telling me how he doesn't have time to negotiate, so let's just call it $50 for the lot. Of over 100 games. How is that better than $1 each?

So I again said no thanks. I told him that the systems were all packaged up and I'd send them tomorrow. He then e-mailed me, said, terrific!, and that he'd send me $100.

I e-mailed back, and said.. "umm.. 8 consoles times $15 is $120.. plus $20 in postage is $140".

He then e-mailed me back and said.. "well, I've been paying on average $12.50 for systems.. so that's $100 + postage".

I e-mailed back and basically told him that I wasn't too interested in what he paid on "average" and that I wanted $15 each, as his e-mail indicated.

Keep in mind, we had sent a dozen e-mails back and forth to each other, and he had never indicated that he wasn't paying $15 each for the consoles.. and he waited until AFTER they were all ready to go before letting me know.

So anyways, I tell him I want $15, coz that's what his e-mail said.

He then told me to examine the e-mail closer, and notice that it said "upto $15 each", and that he was only going to pay me $12.50 each.

So I basically told him where he could go.. I mean.. I couldn't believe it.. I could have sent the package off already, and he could have decided that he wanted to pay me "$-10" each, since that's less than $15, and I could have gotten a bill from him saying that I owed him $80 for the privledge of sending him 8 Colecovisions.

So I told him never to contact me again, as I would consider it harassment.

He e-mailed me again.

I said that I really meant it.. that the next time he contacts me, I'm calling my lawyer.

I haven't heard from him since.

Oh.. I forgot to mention.. the story has a happy ending.

A very well known Atari collector took pity on me after I wrote about these guys on rec.games.video.classic. He bought all the systems at the price I thought I was going to get originally, plus paid up front! He seems happy with the systems, and I was happy to have some cash to do some eBaying with, so everyone won.

My first order (by money Order) a $20 pitfall game i forgot to insure it, i never recieved the game and the tracking number he gave me never left Texas. so i thought oh well $20 down the drain, but after about the 2nd week after something happening to this pitfall game i looked on thier website and the Pitfall game was all of a sudden unavalible (hummm, very suspicious)

so i ordered a 2nd game HERO for $20 (it was avalible) and insured it big time, and the exact same thing happened to this game, but as soon as they sent me the tracking number i looked on thier website to check the status of the HERO game, and guess what? it was unavalible, but this time i got my money back, from the post office

these guys are major scam artists

They sound like scam artists, but I don't want to comment on them at all, coz I wouldn't want them to have a reason to sue me.

Man, I've just played Zaxxon for my CV, and now I'm hooked! I can't let a day go by without playing it for at least a half an hour! I only have five games though, so I get out of the pretty quickly.

You know what I've just realized? I've NEVER seen systems other than 2600's, NES's, Genesis's, and SNES's at thrift shops. No Colecovisons, no Intellivisions, nothing. Not even a Commodore. And I'm not ready to pay $40-upward on ebay for one.

I dig the Colecovision, its a cool system and as an Atari fan I was always envious of the slew of controllers that Coleco released while Atari's selection while good was not as flashy and eye catching as the Colecovision Super Action Controllers, Steering Controller and such. The Roller Controller I'm not crazy about... Atari's trakball controller seemed much better and the 5200 controller was true arcade hands down.

Well, for those into Colecovision, have a look at a project I've worked on:

The Colecovision Kiosk

@z_a_n_z_a - Thank you! The dust covers come up on EBAY every now and then, just keep a sharp eye out!

@Curt - Nice project! Will it be ready to display at Philly??

Zanza... thanks.

Will have more photo's and info later tonight. I just made the generic opening menu for all 3 of the kiosks and I'm working on putting up some of the Astrocade project pages and will add some more Coleco pages on wiring the control panel. Then I'll start putting up some Odyssey2 photo's. This way all 3 projects are being shown and I'll try to have all of the pages come to the finished projects around the same time.

Here's the new link to the Kiosks Main Menu page:

Anyone have a spare working colecovision console with power supply/controllers forsale? I got a box full of 25 coleco games, roller controller, Atari six switch system, and about 15 Atari games for $15.00 over the weekend. Now I need a console to play the cocleco games! I don't want to pay the $30 plus eBay prices for systems with games. All I need is a console/power supply. Let me know. I can pay via Paypal.

Thanks,

Jim
