super_dos_man #1 Posted May 8, 2006 is it worth it or shoud I just stick with the regular control pad?
JagFan422 #2 Posted May 8, 2006 no its worth it. This thing is great, easy to use, nice large buttons. I'd highly recommend it.
Bivotar #3 Posted May 8, 2006 This was by far my favorite NES controller. Actually one of the better in comparison to other systems. It is especially nice if you are more of a joystick person than a d-pad person. It had a nice turbo fire feature that was handy for a lot of games. I found a position on the turbo setting that would help me get MANY extra lives on Super Mario 2 (the slot machine screen).
n8littlefield #4 Posted May 8, 2006 I love mine. I bought it at a flea and nursed it back to health (the big red buttons were REALLY sticky). It's really good for arcade-type games. Next time I see one, I'm getting mine a playmate.
Tempest #5 Posted May 8, 2006 Personally I hate it. I remember getting one when they came out thinking it would make my life easier since I was coming from the good ol Atari sticks and the thumb pad was still giving trouble. The controller reminds me alot of the Neo-Geo controller, a bit too big and clumsy to be of real use. Some people swear by them, but I find it too large to be comfortable. The best use I foudn for it was for Gyromite. I would put it on the floor and hit the large buttons with my feet to open and close the gates. +Cobra Kai #6 Posted May 8, 2006 (edited) Only get the NES Advantage if you want to use one of a few elite joysticks ever made. And if you prefer tight, precise controls for your games....Oh, and also if you don't mind having a comfortable way to play NES games. Personally, I will not play NES without this stick. badbrad #7 Posted May 8, 2006 I agree. The Advantage is solid and accurate. Had mine for like 15 years, or since it came out, at least. Never had a problem. The Super Advantage, on the other hand, is a piece of $hit.
+FujiSkunk #8 Posted May 8, 2006 I loved my Advantage for about the month or so I got to actually use it. I had found it at a thrift store with some other NES stuff, put it in a closet for a year or two, then pulled it out and started having fun with it. Just a few weeks later one of the buttons went flaky on me. I'm hoping this is not a typical experience, and I would really like to find another one some time. AtariJr #9 Posted May 8, 2006 I agree its solid and accurate.. but it was just a pain to play with... all of your actions in lets say, super mario, were slower since the moving of the huge joystick took longer than playing with the dpad... i donno.. i sold mine a long time ago.. Just a few weeks later one of the buttons went flaky on me. I'm hoping this is not a typical experience, and I would really like to find another one some time. Not typical. My first one was 3rd-hand, and the only issue it really had was that if you hit the buttons offcenter, sometimes they got stuck under the edge of the case and didn't come up until you slapped them again. After several years of use, the stick failed. Started deciding down should always be pressed with right. I probably could've fixed it, but I didn't immediatly see anything wrong, and Toys R Us had NES stuff on clearance, and a huge stack of Advantages, so... five bucks for a new stick. ... Kinda wish I'd stocked up. I agree its solid and accurate.. but it was just a pain to play with... all of your actions in lets say, super mario, were slower since the moving of the huge joystick took longer than playing with the dpad... i donno.. i sold mine a long time ago.. I'm faster and more precise with the stick, generally. I suppose it comes down to personal preference.
