What games should I get for my Saturn?

Recommended Posts

Right now I have: NiGHTs, Sonic Jam x2, Darius Gaiden, Virtua Fighter 1, Virtua Fighter 2, Megaman 8, Megaman X4, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Tomb Raider, Shining Wisdom and soon hopefully Virtua Fighter Kids.

But right now I wonder what other games I should get for my Saturn? It can also be import, and if it is, can anyone recommend me a good import cart adapter that will allow me to play import games?

An ST-Key cartridge is good for import games. I bought one with 4 shrinkwrapped games last year at the Oklahoma Game Expo for $20, so they're not too expensive. It came with Konami MSX Antiques Collection, which turned out to be pretty fun. It was loaded with Konami's best MSX computer ports, like Gradius, Salamander, Gradius II, Antarctic Adventure, and so on.

That MSX Saturn collection is awesome, but it doesn't have all of Konami's best for MSX. It only has MSX1 games. It's missing some great MSX1 titles like Q*Bert, Frogger, King's Valley 2, Nightmare 2, and Goonies and doesn't have any MSX2 games. That means no Vampire Killer/Akumajo Dracula, no Metal Gear, no Goemon, no Quarth, and no Space Manbow.

Still, the selection in the MSX collection is excellent. The titles you mentioned are great, but don't forget that the collection has the excellent sequel to Antartic Adventure, Penguin Adventure. Other titles worth mentioning are Knightmare, Yie Ar Kung Fu 2, Magical Tree, Super Cobra, Athletic Land, Comic Bakery, Gofer no Yobou Episode 2, and Parodius.

Last I checked, www.mcvans.com still has the Saturn MSX collection for 10 dollars + 6 dollars shipping brand new. It's a very good price for the game and I can vouch for mcvans. They shipped fast and the game was well packed.

I have been playing an awful lot of Thunderforce V for the Saturn.

X-Men vs Street Fighter is a great buy, but you need a 4 meg ram cart or else it won't play.

Thank you all. Does anyone know a good place to buy the 4 in one cart that allows me to play 4 meg import Saturn games?

The 4 in 1 cart doesn't do 4mb games that well. The 5 in 1 does. Get that one instead :)

The official name of the cart isn't 5 in 1. The so called "5 in 1" is just the later revision of the 4 in 1. The real name of it is "Action Replay 4m Plus". They can be ordered from Play-Asia. Keep in mind that I don't have a 1m or 4m game to test with it yet, but the Action Replay 4m Plus I have already has the latest firmware, which is a good sign. http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-k8-77-...lay-70-1b2.html

Die Hard Arcade. I love it. Not the greatest game in the world but for me it was the Saturns killer-app.

For the arcade lovers, I would recommend the "Sega Ages" titles. In Japan, Out Run, Space Harrier, After Burner II, Power Drift and Galaxy Force II (among others) were given pixel-perfect ports on the Saturn. Each disc also served as a sort-of soundtrack release, featuring different remixes of each game's music. In the U.S., Out Run, Space Harrier and After Burner II were released on a single disc named Sega Ages, which has the games but skimps on the extra music.

Note that this is not to be confused with Sega's current "Sega Ages 2500" line for the Japanese PS2.

I just ordered that right now. And I also ordered a import game of Vampire Hunter. Couldn't afford the MSX Collection or Vampire Saviour. Next month hopefully I will buy Dracula NITM aka the Sat version oc Castlevania Symphony of the Night, but this version has tons of stuff added not the mention better voice acting in the Japanese version then the USA version.

Are you in the UK, Europe, or the US? I'm in the US and I have never had a single customs problem with play-asia, but I heard that people in the UK or Europe have had customs problems with play-asia.

I live in the US. BTW my order shipped. But I choose the cheaper shipping that doesn't have tracking on it, so I won't know.

If you can find a Stunner or a Virtua Gun, get Virtua Cop 2 and Area 51.

Also, Virtual On is highly recommended. Your stock pads can simulate the twin joysticks quite well.

From what I hear, Saturn has the best Tempest 2000 port out there. Also, I'd recommend Shining The Holy Ark (turn based RPG released just before FF7), Enemy Zero (hybrid FPS and RPG), Shining Force III (strategy RPG), Gex (one of the best 2D platformers ever), and I hear Tunnel B1 is a good racer. Gotta pick that on eup myself sometime.

Burning Rangers is a okayish 3D platform game.

Basically, anything by Sonic Team is gonna be your best bet.
