Planet Bob - Doh It Again! Part 1

Yeah, what is sounding like yet another oh-so-clever blog entry title is actually really the name of a game!

Ok, so you instantly recognise it, this is about Arkanoid. The SNES version actually:

Arkanoid - Revenge of Doh

 

While I'm mostly unimpressed with other versions of Arkanoid, this ones really got it IMO.

 

It's also going way beyond your normal everyday breakout clone. It actually even has some sort of a background story

 

It all starts with a pretty impressive intro:

 

Continuing into a more familiar Arkanoid sight:

 

It has all the usual extras we love, like Glue, Laser, Shield, Slowdown, Multiball, etc. but also at least one that I thought was rather new: "M" makes your ball unstoppable, so it'll remove every destroyable brick without getting off its path.

 

There's also some fun new enemies, like ones that'll capture and teleport the ball, or some that'll turn into bricks, or fake balls.

 

The main attraction though is some "boss" battles that seem to happen every 11th stage:

 

Well, well. So far so good for the introduction. I plan on beating this game, so I may document my progress in a few more entries.
