Microsoft and nintendo teaming up against sony?

Recommended Posts

The link is http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=6427. Peter moore of Microsoft is telling people that if you buy a wii and a 360 that equals the price of a ps 3. He is complimenting the wii.

I think he and microsoft thinks this is the only the 360 could do well in Japan. It also sounds like microsoft does't know what it well do it the 360 continues to sell poorly in a years. I am a bit curious if microsoft ends up making games for the wii in Japan because of what he is saying.

I think microsoft really doesn't want sony to win and with peter moore used to work for sega this would make some sense.

He's complimenting the 360. Everyone knew that the Wii was a wild card niche product. The 360 and the PS3 are the ones fighting over the hardcore gamers. With the Sony price announcement, Moore can safely tell people to have fun swinging their tennis rackets on the Wii, then switch over to the 360 for some Halo and GTA love. Sony is being attacked on both sides. If the Playstation loses dominance, there will be plenty of dollars for the other two to split.

Too true... Sony is in to win and have been doing so with the PS1 and 2... they aren't taking the portable world by storm and BluRay may be a huge issue (the cost) for their dominance with the PS3

If the playstation line losses its iron grip we might see an end to sony.

The way it could happen is if sony pulls a "pac-man" in the shipping department. All sony had been talking about with sales is shipping. For the end for sony to happen is Sony has to sell less then 20 million units world wide for the ps 3 with the software sales for sony slowing to a crawl with the stores having too much ps 3 inventory. The 2nd thing to have an end to sony is by having the blue-ray movies not selling. It sony does loses its grip it shouldn't be quite out of bussiness yet. The rest of the departments of sony is hurting. If the blue ray movies sell but the games don't it still would keep sony alive.

If ps3's have some type of problem after being purchased 1 or 2 years after buying one, It would hurt sony for the gaming generation after this one coming up. Every sony product in the video game market console or hanheld had some type of problem. I don't consumers buy a new one at $600.00. What would happen is the consumer could be selling of the ps3 games along with being a system from microsoft or nintendo.

the problem is that sony puts all the stuff they cant sell in their systems to make money. like their mp3 players, dvd players, yatta yatta.... Their computer line and most everything but cameras arent making that much money. Sony reaaaally relies off the success of the playstation to meet their profit goals per year. I heard that if the playstation 3 doenst do well they will back out in hopes to save their name so their other products dont suffer. Then again sony also said that the system once could be 1000 dollars and it would make the 360 look outdated, so you can take that with a grain of salt.

either way its good news... microsoft has been supporting nintendo for a bit with the handhelds as well. I know when sony announced the psp, microsoft said it was a death trap to make a handheld to compete against nintendo. Looks like they were right. This is a perfect marketing ploy to make gamers think 3 systems cant live side by side. who knows, maybe we are going back to the 2 console market again. excpet this time people would most likely have both since they are so different, not just one.

Im assuming the freindly relations between them is also helping on the game side too. Diddy Kong Racing DS is being made by Rare which is owned now by microsoft right? So are our hopes of seeing Goldeneye on the Virtual Console a posibility?

PS: while i like that Rare is doing something with nintendo im quite disapointed that even though they said stuff like redone levels and 8 player single cart play and touch screen controlls and all that crud, its basically just a port. Oh well.. maybe this is a sign of better things to come from them .

The Wii will be Microsoft's unintentional ally, its Ralph Nader, if you will. Younger players who just can't afford the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 will buy a Wii instead. Those gamers who want a more familiar and robust gaming experience will buy the Xbox 360 instead of the Playstation 3, and spend the money they've saved on games.

The Wii presents no threat to the Xbox 360, and Peter Moore knows it. He DOES know, however, that its presence can only harm the PS3. Gamers who want to go cross-platform (like many of us, I suspect) will buy the Wii and the Xbox 360, rather than settling for one console whose prohibitive price will only harm its chances of success.

I dont think this could happen.. but you never know... if microsoft is the console that starts to slip instead of the ps3 in the future, what do you think microsoft's stance will be with the Wii? Do you think they would continue to gain support for them, or do you think that they would stop and consider both a threat. You never know, and Nintendo could pose a threat if they are the ones preventing them from moving upward in the Japanese markets and quite possibly the other markets as well. I really don tknow what will happen and no one does, but do you think they would change their stance if this occured also preventing their companies like Rare from doing more work on the DS or possibly Wii?

Oh yeah, if Microsoft considered Nintendo a threat, they'd change their stance in an instant. I mean, this is the same company that just ten years ago was telling us that consoles had no future and that computers would be the future of video games (I saw this in a computer magazine a long, long time ago... boy do I wish I could find that quote!).

It's not like Microsoft is going to make a version of Halo for the Wii or anything. They're just throwing a few kind words Nintendo's way, because they think that the company will do more damage to Sony than themselves. Once Sony is out of the way, there's a good chance that Microsoft will turn on Nintendo. It's that kind of business, and Microsoft is that kind of company.

If I were him I'd be saying the same thing. In fact, if I were him I'd practically be calling Wii games Xbox exclusives. People who mostly want traditional games will not be generally buying the Wii; they will be buying a PS3 or 360. Thus, Microsoft is only barely in competition with the Wii. However, people who buy a Wii will likely have either too little money to buy a 360 in the first place (so they didn't lose a sale) or will still want another system for traditional games. Once they've spent $200 already on consoles, at $400 the 360 will probably look like the better chocie, rather than spending half a grand+ on the PS3. I think the three six wii is going to be a popular choice this generation.

I agree that esp with the price wii is first and then 360 and many will want both because of the price. I dont understand what you mean by wii games being "traditional games".. i think that they are pretty non traditional compaired to 360 games.

I was thinking about getting a 360 just for GTA, but I dont think it would be worth the almost 400 i would have to spend just to play one game, and that is all i would play, and maybe splinter cell , do you think splinter cell would ever be released for the Wii?

Hey, if Ubisoft sells a bunch of Red Steels, the skies the limit on what they do for the wii next. Not being a fan of Splinter cell though, I hope they release some more original franchises.

I haven't been a fan of Splinter Cell either, but I admit that alot of that is that the controls just never became natural to me. I hate games that use every button on the Dual Shock. If they revamped the game with some really smooth intuitive Wii controllers at the very least I'd give the series another go.

And actually, I think the Wii will see quite a few traditional games. Afterall, it's still getting the obvious Tony Hawk and Madden iterations. And actually, IGN put up some footage and Madden looks really nice, the graphics are quite good.
