scogey #1 Posted May 17, 2006 Anybody have a game they loved as a kid but just hate it now? I have a few that I never play anymore but played the hell out of in my youth. 1. Ice Hockey 2. Congo Bongo 3. Star Voyager 4. Atlantis By the way....Ice Hockey must be by FAR the easiest patch to win of all Activision games.
sku_u #2 Posted May 17, 2006 Ice Hockey is the only sports title besides Bowling I play on a reglular basis. It's a lot of fun if playing against a human opponent.
ZylonBane #3 Posted May 17, 2006 Is there some reason non-Americans are excluded from this discussion?
godzillajoe #4 Posted May 17, 2006 Played Ice Hockey just the other day. Two player even. Great game. Like the other guy said, what's with the "Americans" thing?
+RandomPerson #5 Posted May 17, 2006 Well I'm a Canuck so I guess it doesn't matter that I like Ice Hockey seeing as I'm just a Canadian and all.
sku_u #6 Posted May 17, 2006 Well I'm a Canuck so I guess it doesn't matter that I like Ice Hockey seeing as I'm just a Canadian and all. Sure it does. Canada is the 51st state.

scogey #8 Posted May 17, 2006 good point on the ice hockey....I was refering to the 1 player version. I would play 2 player. Also before sports licensing came to the video game business, I would try to guess what teams were featured.. 2600 ice hockey - Rangers vs North Stars C64 4th and inches - Penn State vs Nebraska 2600 Basketball - Lakers vs Celtics I guess I over think things that are supposed to be simple. and ZB, anyone can participate, even guest players. panamajoe #9 Posted May 17, 2006 Is there some reason non-Americans are excluded from this discussion? Maybe because of the games germans have mastered: http://www.atariage.com/cart_page.html?SoftwareLabelID=1709
+RandomPerson #10 Posted May 17, 2006 (edited) Well I'm a Canuck so I guess it doesn't matter that I like Ice Hockey seeing as I'm just a Canadian and all. Sure it does. Canada is the 51st state. It's all good cause we all know the majority of North America is only 1 country after all. You know the United States Of Canada. I'm just wondering when Mexico and Quebec are gonna join..lol.. +doctorclu #11 Posted May 17, 2006 Artist: Lyrics Song: My Girlfriend, Who Lives in Canada Lyrics ROD Ohhhh... I wish you could meet my girlfriend, my girlfriend who lives in Canada. She couldn't be sweeter I wish you could meet her, My girlfriend who lives in Canada! Her name is Alberta She live in Vancouver She cooks like my mother And sucks like a Hoover. I e-mail her every single day Just to make sure that everything's okay. It's a pity she lives so far away, in Canada! Last week she was here, but she had the flu. Too bad 'Cause I wanted to introduce her to you It's so sad There wasn't a thing that she could do But stay in bed with her legs up over her head! Oh! I wish you could meet my girlfriend, But you can't because she is in Canada. I love her, I miss her, I can't wait to kiss her, So soon I'll be off to Alberta! I mean Vancouver! Shit! Her name is Alberta, she lives in Vancou- She's my girlfriend! My wonderful girlfriend! Yes I have a girlfriend, who lives in Canada!! (All this talk of Canada and me listening to Avenue Q this morning... had to throw that in.)
Crazy Climber #12 Posted May 17, 2006 I loved Amidar as a kid, when I play it now it just makes me mad
128bytes #13 Posted May 17, 2006 I still won't play "1980 Summer Olympics" Speaking of which (well, at least games Soviets won't play ), Wil Wheaton reviews Decathlon in the brand new issue of the A.V. Club. Snippet: n 1984, the Summer Olympics came to Los Angeles, and game developers looked for a way to commemorate the historical event on console systems. However, Soviet Bloc Boycott proved difficult to license, and Reganomics! could only be won by 2 or 3 percent of the people who played it, so Activision's brilliant David Crane gave gamers everywhere a chance to compete in the decathlon. Lord Helmet #14 Posted May 17, 2006 (edited) I played the hell out of Pac-Man and Donkey Kong when I was a kid, because I had no better option to play them at home...now there are much better options. I also don't play many of the early Atari titles anymore...Air Sea Battle comes to mind. I also never play Combat, but I would if I had someone to play it with. None of my video game playing freinds play the classics Edited May 17, 2006 by Lord Helmet
128bytes #15 Posted May 17, 2006 I also don't play many of the early Atari titles anymore...Air Sea Battle comes to mind. I also never play Combat, but I would if I had someone to play it with. None of my video game playing freinds play the classics Man, that's the most depressing thing I've heard in a while. Makes me appreciate the game of 4-player Warlords I had last weekend even more. All the pre-Space Invaders games on the 2600 (Adventure is the brilliant exception that proves the rule), and lots made soon thereafter, are more fun (due to the AI or lack thereof) with another person. Many of the old basic games like Sky Diver, Bowling, Dodge 'Em, Air Sea Battle, and Hangman are great fun when other people are around -- especially the non-video-game playing types (precisely the ones Nintendo is trying to capture with the Wii). Crazy Climber #16 Posted May 17, 2006 After reading a different thread I totally forgot about E.T. Me and my friends played this game back when it came out and loved it, keep in mind we were around seven years old, anyways now I get mad when I play it. Especially those damn pits you fall in. Starhopper #18 Posted May 20, 2006 Well, I used to play the vines off of 'Jungle Hunt', but now it just bores me. Air-Sea battle is a yawner now, too. One game that I no longer play because of the lack of difficulty is Atlantis. I LOVED that game as a child, mopping the skies with aliens. Now, though, I can just keep playing and playing and playing. . . I hung on for an hour before giving up to play something worthwhile, like Adventure and Solaris. +HammR25 #19 Posted May 20, 2006 (edited) I thought Adventure was awesome as a kid. I won't touch it now. Honestly though very few 2600 games hold my attention now like they did when I was a kid. They're a nice diversion for 10-15 minutes at a time but that's it. My nieces and nephew have lots of fun flipping through my CC2 though and finding old games to play. SHAGOHOD X99 #20 Posted May 20, 2006 A recent bumper sticker I saw on a truck on the highway: "Hi, I'm from Texas. What country are you from?" I like this one better... (my sig @ a different forum) ON TOPIC... I can't stand to play Sea Hawk or KRULL anymore. That's about it for the 2600. Oh wait... I also hate E.T. with a passion, but then I always hated the game so it's kind of moot for saying "Replay".
