Arcadia 2001/Leisure-Vision

Recommended Posts

Since most of the other Arcadia Gurus don't post on AtariAge, I guess that makes me the resident Arcadia expert...

Yes the LeisureVision is just the Canadian version of the Arcadia. The Arcadia 2001 goes under many different names depending on what country your in (Hanimex HMG-2650, Schmid TVG-2000, Tunix, Leonardo, Arcadia, Interchord 2000XL). All the carts in the "Emerson" family are compatible, there are other carts called MPT-03 and Palladium which are techinically compatible with the Arcadia, but won't fit in the machine. You probably won't run into those unless you frequent German Ebay auctions. So you want to look out for any cartridges that are the same shape as yours (long or short).

The best games for the system are: Turtles, Jump Bug, The End, Red Clash, Pleadies, R2D Tank, Cat Trax, Astro Invader, Spiders, Hobo, Route 16, and Jungler. Unfortunetly most of these weren't released in the US so finding them is rather difficult. But since they were all released for the Leisurevision, you should be able to find them on this side of the pond (so to speak).

I've probably confused you more than I've helped. Try looking at Ward Shrakes Arcadia page for more info: http://www.classicgaming.com/arcadia/contents.htm

So, I managed to find a handful of Leisure-Vision games the other day, with the boxes and manuals (even a seperate french manual for each of them). Although I've never come across a Leisure-Vision, my chances of finding the games again were so minimal that I decided to pick them out.

Now that I look into it, the LV is basically an Arcadia 2001 in disguise, right? Is there any differences between the two, or is it possible for me to just get an Arcadia 2001 off eBay and plug my LV carts into it?

And now that I apparently have a Leisure-Vision collection (as minimal as it may be), what would people say are some of the better games for this system?

I have an Arcadia 2001. I got it about 5 years ago and have a few games for it. I can't remember exactly where I got it. Shorty after I got it I hooked an AC adapter up to and fired it up!!! FIRED being the key word here.... I got up to try and figure out why nothing was showing up when I cut it on.... Suddenly I realized something was burning!!! I turned around and smoke was bellowing from the console!!!

I still got it on a little shelf.... I'm afraid it dead tho

Thanks for the information Tempest, I'll have to keep my eyes open for a Leisure-Vision... it looks like a nifty little system to collect for (even if the stuff is hard to find)
