Urchlay #1 Posted May 19, 2006 Is the thumbstick that screws into the CX78 gamepad as breakable as it looks? I've got a CX78, but it didn't come with the stick... seems like it'd be more comfortable to use with the stick attached (would change the angle of the thumb, anyway), but I don't want to go on a quest to track one down only to break it the first time I try to use it. (For reference: I bought a Gravis gamepad in '98 or '99 and broke its thumbstick literally 10 seconds into the first game I played with it... Galaga on MAME, I guess I was trying to treat it like an arcade controller...)
Lord Helmet #2 Posted May 19, 2006 I have two of the europads, both have sticks. They feel sturdy enough to me, but I tend to favor unscrewing them when I use the pads.
Happy_Dude #3 Posted May 19, 2006 I love the thubsticks and have never broken one. It gives you enough leverage to make it alot easier on the thumb(s)
+RandomPerson #4 Posted May 19, 2006 I have 4 of them and the thimbsticks are are still quite sturdy. I have had 2 of them for a few years now and they are still just as tough. I do take them out for most games though.
Urchlay #5 Posted May 20, 2006 It sounds like it'd be worth the effort to go on a thumbstick-hunt. Just in the past couple of years, I've been using a Logitech wireless controller (looks just like a Playstation dual shock, 2 "analog sticks") for playing emulated games, and have actually started to get good at it. The CX78 with thumbstick wouldn't have the same feel (directional vs. analog), but it'd be better than a Proline, for those games that need both buttons (yes, I'm a member of the Proline-haters club). Of course, I just picked up a couple of Wico Command Control 2600 sticks, which are what I grew up with (leaf springs rule, even back when I didn't know what they are). I might attempt to modify one to act like a 7800 stick: they've got two fire buttons already, with a switch to choose between them. The Proline schematic looks simple enough that even I could probably build a version that fits inside the Wico... Hm, I never thought of that before...
