Lemmi #5 Posted May 20, 2006 ive always used the one that comes with the colecovision This is Turbo we're talking about. yes i know, but i havent read anywhere where you cant play the game without the driving wheel, and i had the game Turbo for 8 years before i ever bought a wheel and i played turbo with a regular controller the only other controller would be the super action controllers which i read could be used to play turbo so find me any place that says turbo cant be played without the wheel

I'd have turbo if I could play it. Unfortunately I'm prety much tapped out on space to put game stuff, much less a big ol' expansion mod. If Turbo works with the SA controllers I'm going to hit ebay and pick up a cart!!!
brendano #9 Posted May 21, 2006 Thanks, I just picked up a SA controller for a few bucks and it works perfectly. Took a little getting used to though. You drive by spinning the wheel on the back of the controller.

You drive by spinning the wheel on the back of the controller. Sweet! So, what the car goes left to right with the roller then, how about accellerating and braking? How about shifting gears? well it looks like jetset is gonna be looking for a turbo game now That's the fact Jack!!!
brendano #12 Posted May 21, 2006 Sweet! So, what the car goes left to right with the roller then, how about accellerating and braking? How about shifting gears? Yeah the roller moves the car, The first trigger accelerates and the second controller's stick is the shifter (Up for low gear and down for high). There is no break in Turbo though. Even the official steering wheel has only an accelerate pedal.
jetset #13 Posted May 31, 2006 Well...I got my Turbo today. fired it up, and.... It sucks. The game is good, but the SA controllers mondo-stink. The roller does indeed control the car from left to right, but to move left you have to roll right, and vice cersa. Plus, you have to roll it REALLY hard to get it to move in either direction. Meh. Maybe if I give it more of a chance I'll like it. Anyone got the expansion module they want to sell?
Lemmi #14 Posted May 31, 2006 awe man that sucks even with the wheel you have to spin the thing alot to get the car to move, and if the white disc inside of the wheel is warped its even worse, i just remeber the arcade being very responsive, and this was just a let down i got my wheel from collectorscardsandgames http://www.collectorscardsandgames.com/ Colecovision Steering Wheel-for use w/ racing game Turbo $

Here's my unasked for (but I'll still say it) story. I got mine in Christmas 85...and it was about the coolest damn thing ever. We never played the limited car version, though, cause it was too hard for us. We always tried to get to the White House (a schoolyard rumour), but it never happened. The only other games I had for it were The Dukes of Hazzard (which I loved) and Destructor (which I also loved, and now wonder why...). Here's the worst part. I thought that the unit was broken when the steering didn't work. So I gave it to my buddy from school who cut, soldered, and basically ruined it. Only to find out afterwards it was due to DEAD BATTERIES (it took 4 C cell batts). For an instant my head looked like an anvil and the sounds of braying donkeys were heard. That was the last time I played it. Essentially it's just a lousy oversized paddle controller with a spring on/off switch for a gas pedal. About the SA Controllers....again, awesome in their time compared to anything else, but now they're crap. The spinner sucked. You had to whirl that thing like crazy to get your basemen to run in baseball... I couldn't imagine playing Turbo with it. For Frontline, it was incredible. We loved that damn game too. Ah, memories. I don't really have a good time playing Coleco anymore, just my 2600. Go figure, back in the day it was such the opposite! I was so damn proud of my Coleco....hahaha!
