Questions about Commador 64

Recommended Posts

I know nothing about C64...I mean nothing at all. Is it a console that hooks to your tv? Or does it have it's own monitor? Does it use a keyboard and a joystick or just a keyboard? Are the games cartridges or what? Does anyone have a pic they can show mw of a C64 and a site where I can get games.

It is a keyboard w/ the comp built in .It can hook up to the Tv or a seperately purchased Commodre monitor. There are carts disks and tapes. Disk drives and tape players attach to back. Carts just plug in. There are two main wariation ... the c64 (breadbin) and the c64c a sleek elegant design.

I paid $4 for my c64 (just the computer). I have the tape drive (which I got from a diff. thrift for $3), and several tapes (which I got for $1 each)

Pay what you want to pay. They're not that rare, but for some reason, the games for old computers (ie: commodores, st's, amstrads) are hard to find (I find the systems a lot, just not the games/tapes/disks).

So, if there's a lot of games, you might want to get it. If there isn't much with it, then you may want to wait your time...

Ahh...the C-64 brings back the 80´s memories. The worlds most sold homecomputer, and what a beauty it is too.! There should be loads of games out there for the system. I would recommend that you try getting a discdrive for it as well. The 1541 or a compatible. They used those old 5 1/4" format and load games faster and so on.

Look for an Action Replay cart as well...a must-have for the C64. The cart itself has no label (since it was sold under other names), and has two pushbuttons on the end. One button resets the computer, but the other button will interrupt any running program (even commercial games)...allowing you to change the sprites, kill sprite collisions, look at the program code, save the state of the game, etc.

I wouldn't pay much for it. On my average day of hunting I see atleast one and probably 50 tape games. Disk drives such as the 1541 aren't so easy to come by (I've seen one so far this year), similare with the Action Replays. Game carts and disk games are almost immpossible to find.

I had 3 as a kid (learnt BASIC on them) and I can't think of one game that is worth the load time. If I were you I'd avoid the nasty thing and get a rubber key Speccy, thats if you want that sort of thing.

Loading times are cut down to 10 (yes 10) seconds with the aforementioned Action Replay cartridge's verbose saves...and even a common Fastload cartridge gets loading times comparable to other systems.

But let's start with "a"...Aliens
