NES carts at Funcoland ?

Hi,

Can anyone who shops at Funcoland give me an approximate price for typical NES games? If possible and you shop there often, can you give me a avg price for common/rare/and ultra rare carts that they may sell?

 

I'm trying to see if Funcoland might be better than some of these websites.

Usually about 5-12 bucks, depending on the game. Of course, really common ones are dirt cheap, like mario/duck hunt, so those are like. .70 cents or so ;p

I've always assumed that Funcoland's (well, really it's GameStop now) prices would be above average for used NES games. I haven't gotten into NES collecting yet so I haven't shopped for NES games there, but I've found that their prices are a bit high for used games, unless they are extremely common. If an extremely rare NES game showed up there, it might be a bargain if they don't know how rare it is and price it in relation to other NES titles. I personally can't see spending $5-12 for loose NES carts.

 

When I start collecting for NES, I'll probably hit flea markets, garage sales, and thrifts, since NES carts are still pretty easy to find. And I'd augment that with trading and maybe browsing around eBay every once in a while, although that always turns out to be a huge money pit for me.

well the lowest price i have seen in 5 for common games and the highest i ever saw there was 20 for final fantasy im not sure how rare it is or if it is worth that but thats how much it costs

It depends, if theres a low demand there cheap. The low demands go for like 85 cents to like 3.00 bucks. Games that arenmt to popular but are good go for like 5-10 bucks. Classics on the nes that ewveryone wants to get there hands on (or really rare ones) go for like 10-35 bucks. This is what I have seen at my local funco land. I know I went to buy River City Ransom but it was 15 dollars!

It depends on a lot of different factors. Basically, Funcoland based their prices on the price that people were willing to pay for games about two years ago. Now that the games have become more collectable, a lot of their prices are off. Some of the rarest NES games can be had for under $5.00 (Stadium Events, the one that sells on eBay for $250-$500) sells at Funco at a list price of $2.99.

 

Some of the more common games that lots of people played sell for more. Games like River City Ransom that were mentioned that are rare, but popular do sell for $10-$25.

Funcoland is a new/used videogame/system store that opened up in the early 90's on the east coast of the US, but now Gamestop (i think they are from the west coast) has bought up the funcoland stores and changed the name

yeah some of the camerica carts are rare and only a few are somewhat common Big Nose Freaks Out which i got from Crossbow costed like $12.99 cause its one of the harder ones to find

 

It all depends on the game, name some games and i think i can ballpark the prices from funcoland since i go about once aweek

I might be wrong, but I'm almost positive that Funcolands were in the Midwest before the 90's. I remember going to them to look for new Nintendo games before Mario 3 was released, and reading through their newspapers to see what new NES games would be coming out soon...

They weren't from the West Coast. It's Barnes And Noble in disguise.

i hear ya Goat dan i thought they might have been around longer then i stated but i do know they opened their first store in Taylor MI in 1991 or 92 -- heh its funny what you can remember from what girl you were dating around the time a videogame related thing happened

 

as for gamestop i just heard they started on the west coast and spread everywhere, this is all from a guy i know but he could be totally wrong tho

Gamestop bought them, Babbages, and Software Etc. 2 years ago. Finally they just changed the names now.

 

I picked up SF2 Turbo for SNES for 11 bucks, and NES Commando for 4, so its not so bad ;p

I just looked at the website. Talk about ripoffs. The Funcolands by me charges alot less for games. The real hard ones run about $15-25. These are the Mega Mans and the Dragon Warrios, etc. I get tons of games for $2.00 and under. I usually will walk out of the store with 10-15 games each time. At one point, the Super Mario Duck Hunt game was a whole 9 cents. I wound up buying up at least 70 of them. Their prices would fluctuate from month to month.

 

So if you walk in the Funcoland stores yourself, you will be surprised at how low the prices are. I'm probably close to 400 games now for the Nintendo and not once have I ever paid more than $5.00 for a game. And that was boxed with instructions. Loose cart, never more than $3.00.

yeah, I see what you're saying phil. It kills me when there are people trying to pawn stuff off for 10 or even 5 bucks for a loose cart. The problem is there are actually people out there that pay it. I find it hard to deal with those people that want a million bucks for their games. I stopped at a side of the road yard sale on cars type thing, and this dude wanted 40 bucks for a genesis with 32x, and one game. I about laughed in his face. I just walked away.
