keilbaca #1 Posted May 22, 2006 Hello all, My mame cab has a pci slot only. i would like to get ahold of a 19" vertical monitor, making it as faithful as possible. I read that the ArcadeVGA is a modified Radeon 9200. I have a PCI ATI Radeon 9250 256mb video card. Is it possible to modify the bios to accept the lower resolutions/refresh rate as an arcade monitor, or possibly by software that I can force to run upon startup of the computer? MattG/Snyper2099 #2 Posted May 24, 2006 In short no. The arcadevga card is etched specifically for MAME applications. It is also smaller than the 9250 Radeon.
keilbaca #3 Posted May 24, 2006 Bleh, so I'm stuck with using a vga type of monitor then for my arcade... unless I can find a way to force resolutions that small. Thanks for the info
jay2068 #4 Posted May 24, 2006 I've read a few things on BYOAC site about people doing this with mixed results. Not sure if your card is one that can be changed. Try a search over there: Arcadecontrols
keilbaca #5 Posted May 24, 2006 Hmmm. I might go with the tv and overscan idea, as they said it produces a much clearer picture, and adjusting the monitor in windows for display. I'm gonna hafta test this I didn't find any threads about the reflashing of the bios however...
MattG/Snyper2099 #6 Posted May 25, 2006 There are a few options. You could use a television with s video input and use an ATI card with s-video out. That is what I use on one of my horizontal MAME machines. The other option would be to use a real arcade monitor with aracdeos and a special Video card. I would read this guide before you do anything---> http://www.mameworld.net/pc2jamma/monitors.html

Worked pretty well after tinkering with it all for entirely too long. Eventually though I got sick of trying to tweak video modes for games and went with a VGA monitor and moved to XP/MameWAH. MAMEs Direct3D filtering provides a real nice look

That's why I was wondering if the ati card could be flashed to make it run like that, but I guess not. *sighs*
