dwh #1 Posted May 7, 2002 I am planning to attend the Classic Gaming Expo at the Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas. My question is this-is the Plaza Hotel nice to stay at,and is it just more convienyant to stay there anyway to attend the Expo?Did people that stayed there last year have a good experience staying at the Plaza Hotel? Snider-man #2 Posted May 7, 2002 I stayed at the Plaza. The rooms were clean and quiet, but you could tell this place has been around since the early days of Vegas. The lobby and hallways reek of cigarette smoke, though the rooms are very nice. Expect the same kind of accomodations as you would a middle-class Holiday Inn. I wasn't dissappointed, but I have very low standards.
Chris++ #3 Posted May 7, 2002 I'm definitely going this year (haven't been since 1998), so it's nice to know that the Plaza's not too expensive. In fact, if the hotel rooms smell like smoke, I'll definitely be staying there! -- Tobacco-Only Chris

Chris++ #5 Posted May 7, 2002 Why "off topic"? I'd like to hear more about people who've stayed there. I'm starting to make plans for getting out to Vegas, making reservations, etc.
Albert #6 Posted May 7, 2002 I haven't yet stayed at the Plaza, but I plan on doing so for this year's show. Last year I stayed at the LUXOR on the strip with a friend. While the LUXOR is a nice hotel (certainly nicer than the Plaza), it's quite a trip. I'm guessing it's quite a bit more fun to stay in the same hotel with most everyone else. For one, it makes it much easier to drag stuff up and down to the floor. Since we'll have a booth at this year's show, being in the same hotel will help considerably. Also, you can drag your loot back up to your hotel room and then come back down for more. And finally, I can crash all the parties, and maybe we'll have an AtariAge party if we can get a large enough suite. ..Al

cx2k #8 Posted May 8, 2002 quote: Originally posted by Chris Federico: In fact, if the hotel rooms smell like smoke, I'll definitely be staying there! -- Tobacco-Only Chris Actually, the rooms don't smell like smoke in my experience, the casino does. The bottom line is you have to weigh cost and convenience vs. glamour. Of course the Plaza isn't the most extravagant hotel in Vegas, but personally I only need a room to crash in and store my stuff. Rooms at the Plaza are approx. $60 per night and it is where the show takes place. Besides, there's nothing better than being able to stumble out of bed and down to the show after a rough night of drinking and partying. Believe me, I know. atarian1 #9 Posted May 8, 2002 It depends. The Plaza is an older hotel so it doesn't have all the newer animeties, such as a central air conditioning (ie quiet), hair dryers (nice) and better room placement (bathrooms should be next to the hallway to buffer the noise). Staying at the Plaza, I always turned off the air conditioning at night because it was so loud. The main bedroom is right next to the hallway so it's noisy at night when someone walks by your room. In 2000, I got a decent room even though the toilet clogged up (it was fixed). Last year, I got a crappy room...shower didn't work, water leaked from the shower into the room, toilet leaked. This year, I think I'm going to stay on the Strip. I'm just a pickier person who likes the animeties of the newer hotels and willing to pay for it. So it depends on you and your $$$.
