+Cobra Kai #1 Posted May 23, 2006 (edited) Come on, dust off those Jags people. Let's play some games. Rules: Normal Skill, Breakout 2000, any paddle speed. Leading off: 34,020; level 2-2 Any pros care to show me how it's done? ----------------------------------------------------------------- Top Scores 1) 75,397: Gunstarhero 2) 36,283: Isgoed 3) 32,305: MegaData 4) 23,119: doctorclu Edited June 4, 2006 by Gunstarhero
MegaData #2 Posted May 24, 2006 Bah! Are there any other games I have that I don't have on my list? Apparently I have 70 games. Ruins the whole 69 thing I had going on. So, anyway, how long you intend to challenge people?
MegaData #3 Posted May 24, 2006 I'm no pro. Never got into this one much... but I'm looking at the settings now. Were you going against the computer, none, or did you have the other player just sitting there? You have to turn the music on when the match begins! Sheesh, is it the only song? Why'd they do that? No score worth speaking of so far.
+Cobra Kai #4 Posted May 24, 2006 Single Player! You don't have to beat my score...but you should post what you get so you can post your progression. These kind of threads are just meant to get people playing some games mostly, with a little added challenge.

+Cobra Kai #6 Posted May 24, 2006 35,072--level 2-1. Didn't make it as far today, but I increased my score by getting almost 2,000 points on the first bonus stage. I keep getting screwed on 2-0 and 2-1!! The blocks are too close to the paddle. Must. Figure. This. Out.
Isgoed #8 Posted May 25, 2006 My high score so far, 36,283 lvl 2-3 I had some luck with catching the right powerups Gunstarhero, maybe you can edit your first post and place all the achieved scores in a sort of top 5, just an idea.
+Cobra Kai #9 Posted May 25, 2006 (edited) Done! Although I don't know for how long I can edit, I thought that there was a 30 day time-out for edits. I could be thinking of another forum though. p.s. thanks to everyone so far who's participating. I had to do something, it seems like nobody was playing the Jaguar for a long time...just boring programming threads. Isgoed #10 Posted May 25, 2006 Great, now I am very curious if there are more people who will be submitting their scores. At first I used medium paddle speed, but I encountered the problem you mentioned with the 2-0, 2-1 levels. Fast speed suites me best. I'll try to achieve a better score
+Cobra Kai #11 Posted May 26, 2006 You're gonna hate me. Just finished up on level 3-1: 44,390. Got a super ball on 2-0, and well, just breezed through that whole world. Pure ownage.
82-T/A #12 Posted May 26, 2006 Well, I'd like to be in, but I'm not very good. I don't think I had ever really played it since I bought it. But, I'm at level 0-4 and my score was 62?? (forgot the last two digits)! I'll practice this weekend... when does the contest end?
MegaData #13 Posted May 26, 2006 I am pretty sure I had around 6000 the first day too. Now, I made 19,

And I guess it ends when we all don't feel like playing anymore.

+Cobra Kai #20 Posted May 28, 2006 Heh...I've played a couple times since my high score and I can't repeat that performance yet. This game takes some good concentration. Some things I've found out. For pure score, it's actually better to bypass most of the powerups because they actually can keep you from scoring more points. Take the fact that you get 1 point each time the ball hits your paddle. Well, if you get the exploding ball and clear the board faster, you actually scored less points. Also, if you get the warp powerup you miss out on a ton of points because it doesn't give you the points for all the blocks that were just cleared! The Super Ball is worth it though, simply for the fact that you are virtually gauranteed to easily clear all the blocks for the rest of the world, and that's alot of points no matter how you look at it. I think the Catch powerup is worth it too, and also of course the Long Paddle doesn't affect the score negatively.

This might be a dumb question because I COULD look in the manual, but... all my game boxes and manuals are in larger boxes, stored in the back of my closets with a bunch of other video game stuff. So.. I have no way of checking. What exactly happens when you get shot? It looked like it just made a hole in my paddle but it didn't seem to really have any effect on it. Is the damage cumulative and does it slow me down / make the ball not bounce as well? Thanks!
MegaData #22 Posted May 28, 2006 You got me to look at the manual. Robodrone C drops "Stingers" that attach to your paddle with no bonuses. You're given 1000 bonus points for powerups. The Stinger damages your paddle. The face is cracked and ball control is degraded. Any active powerups are canceled and some of the best powerups are dissabled when your paddle is damaged. When your paddle collects 4 stingers the paddle breaks and the ball can no longer be hit. Dropping the ball after the paddle's been destroyed will repair the paddle. Cracks are carried over from one playfield to the next until a new phase starts.
Isgoed #23 Posted May 28, 2006 Gunstarhero, I found out the exact same things that you mentioned, I only take a powerup if it is easy to catch, otherwise I'll let it go and concentrate on the ball (and yes, this game takes a lot of concentration). The game also has slowdown at some points, which can be a little disturbing.
+Cobra Kai #24 Posted May 29, 2006 Just finished a great game and improved my score. 51,853 Level 2-4 I didn't make it as far but as you can see my score was drastically improved. I tried my new strategy of just grabbing powerups for points while not necessarily using the special powers to help clear the board. For instance I'll grab that lightning bolt for 1,000...but I won't use it to sweep the board because it lowers the score potential. I'll even grab the RED lightning bolt that takes away the power because that gives you 1,000 as well! One thing is certain, try and do your best scoring early on, because this game does not have a progressive scoring system. Meaning, the brick layouts become more difficult the further you progress, but the scoring doesn't change. So, you are required to concentrate more on simply connecting the paddle with the ball as the game goes on, but you aren't rewarded with that effort with higher scoring bricks. Those yellow 10 point bricks on 0-1 are still 10 points on 3-1. Also, if one of those robots comes out without dropping a powerup one more time I think I'm gonna scream. MegaData #25 Posted May 29, 2006 I could not break 24,000 today. The robodrones with the powerups weren't layin anything down for me either. I never see the stinger bot do that...
