best game controller

Recommended Posts

Atari 2600/7800: Wico Command and Control 'Bathandle' for purchasable, Radica Space Invader for homebrew.

Super Nintendo: Asciiware Super Advantage (although I have a friend who has their Fighter Stick SN, and want one).

Sega Genesis: Sega 6-Button Arcade Power Stick and Asciiware Fighter Stick SG6

Sony Playstation: Radica Gamester Reflex Stick (for arcade games and some fighters), MadCatz Dual Force Controller (fits my hands better than the Sony pads).

Strangely enough, out of all my systems, I noticed that the Genesis is the only one I like a first-party stick for. Everyone else it's the third party manufacturers. I also tend to only use pads with more modern games, which really are designed around the button configuration of the pad instead of the arcade stick.

I always loved the konix speedking joystick in my c64 days. Even better control than the beloved arcade joysticks

Is that the same as the Epyx 500XJ? Who got it first?

And I also think microsofts original sidewinder gamepad for the pc needs to be mentioned. One of the first and imo best digital gamepads for the pc.

Huh, if that's the one I'm thinking of, I find it too difficult to accurately hit N/S/E/W, I always get NE, SW, etc by mistake.

Sega's Dreamcast joystick takes the crown for panel sticks, though.
Agreed, it's a great design. I really need to get an adapter to use it on my XBOX. This gets the bronze medal from me.
The MK2 Saturn controller, easily. Great button layout. Comfortable, ergonomic design. A D-pad that's precise no matter what direction you push it. It's everything I want from a joypad plus a whole lot more.
Another wonderful design, solid and responsive. This gets the silver medal from me.

My favorite game controller at this time is the XBOX 360 wireless controller. Like the Nintendo Wavebird, which it resembles, it feels good in the hand, has just enough buttons, and the wireless functionality is as responsive as a wired stick. It takes the gold medal for being able to turn the console on or off.

Easy choices for me:

1. Jaguar Pro-controller

2. Megadrive/Genesis

3. Original Atari Joyystick (CX-40?)

4. Saturn

5. 7800 Euro-pad

So any of the 4 players, including the guy who's losing, can turn off the console?

Hmmm.

I don't like it. I don't think anything except maybe "pause" needs to be on a controller. Gamers, get up off your butt and turn the damn console on or off yourself.

Thats the same controller as the Epyx 500xj sold in the US. I have at least 5. They are great except for games that take a lot of firing.

I have all but the Sega version.

The wire at the bottom was kind of dumb.

You do know that you can clip the cord into the back so it feels like a top cord controller right ;)

People always complain about that when playing mine and I just clip it up and they're like "Cool, didn't know that"

Anyway Fave controller is definitly th Saturn (MK-80301)

I'v y6et to find a controller this comfortable and responsive that can survive being stomped on.

(long story, actually I got mad and threw it down and then stood on it, not such a long story, ne :) )

I know about the clip. I don't use it because it doesn't work very well, especially since the rumble cartridge hangs in front of the clip outlet.

They should've run the cord out the top of the controller, either off-center like the NES and some SMS pads(best solution from a practical POV) or under the expansion slots(meets consumer expectations of centered cables).

Such violence.

Hmmm, best controllers...

Pads:

NiGHTS pad (Saturn)

Sony's Dual Analog

Racing controllers:

Ultra Racer 64

negCon

Guns:

Stunner

Joystick:

CX-40, far and away.

Outta the whole list, the negCon gets my vote as the best for its design.

I never had this problem, so I went and dug up all my DC hardware.

Looks like I'v only ever owned MadCatz rumble packs. so mabye they don't get in the way.

Aww who cares I love the cord the way it is :P :P :P

The Dreamcast's Dpad is just SOOOOOO floaty. I love Third Strike and Capcom vs. SNK but the freaking DC's dpad makes them overly frustrating. The "inward" pointing grips don't help my wrists, either. There are many reasons I dislike the DC controllers (although I love the system), but the wire coming out of the bottom has never bothered me. I think I had the system a couple years before even noticing that.

I love the Saturn controller.

Agreed, i loved the eclipse controller for the Saturn... Its hard to find one all shiney, but when they look nice its pretty cool lookin... i think the 3d pad, as much as i hate the moonpie look, i love its dpad much more, and the dreamcastish triggers.. i use that for all my fighting games.

Heh, but for sheer floatiness I think the VMUs controller is even worse.

It seems like with just a bit more battery life and CPU power, the VMU games could have been a ton of fun.

The round NiGHTS pad has kind of a loose D pad, though. Even so, it is extremely responsive. I finished Enemy Zero on its hardest setting without dying even once using the NiGHTS pad in digital mode.

Finishing Enemy Zero itself (let alone NiGHTS) is not a small feat. That speaks volumes for the pad, I think.
