+Propane13 #1 Posted June 1, 2006 Hi everyone, Ok, it sounded from reviews that this game was pretty fun. I'd be interested in further reviews (if anyone has any). And, does anyone know if this will ever be available again? -John
+SpiceWare #2 Posted June 1, 2006 It is a lot of fun. I don't know if it'll be made available again, but the ROM is available so you could use an emulator, such as Stella, to play it.
Lord Thag #3 Posted June 1, 2006 I like it a lot. It reminds me of a forced scrolling 2600 super mario bros actually. Good stuff!
vdub_bobby #4 Posted June 1, 2006 I don't think it will be available again.
Lord Helmet #5 Posted June 1, 2006 I hope it's not available again. It should be a 2005 x-mas exclusive

+atari2600land #10 Posted June 2, 2006 I downloaded Reindeer Rescue and it sucks. Especially the part that's impossible to pass.
holygrailvideogames.com #11 Posted June 2, 2006 (edited) I am waiting for Reindeer Rescue. Al did offer to ship my other items separate. I assume that he sent this message to everyone who is waiting for Adventure II. Greetings, I am writing to you in regards to your order in the AtariAge Store that contains the Atari 5200 homebrew game Adventure II. I'm sure many of you are wondering where the heck the game is, since we made it available for pre-ordering way back in December. I sincerely apologize for the length of time that's passed since then and it was never out intent to keep these orders in limbo for so long. Adventure II author Ron Lloyd has made great strides recently in completing the game, and the end is very much in sight. He's been using a team of beta testers to thoroughly playtest this large and complex game, squashing any remaining bugs and further improving the gameplay. If you'd like to read in detail about how Adventure II is proceeding, please take a look at the official Adventure II development site: http://cafeman.www9.50megs.com/atari/5200d...dventureII.html In particular, you may want to look at the Adventure II Archives where the detailed development entries are located: http://cafeman.www9.50megs.com/atari/5200d...v2Archives.html Adventure II is shaping up to be one of the most impressive homebrew games released for a classic console, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed! If your order contains items other than Adventure II, I'd be glad to ship them in advance and then ship Adventure II separately as soon as it's available. If you're simply fed up with how long this has taken (and I certainly sympathize) and would like to cancel your order, I can do that as well. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Thank you, ..Al I for one am going to wait. Sure I would like my other items but Al spends a lot of money to keep this site going so I don't have a problem waiting. Big Player #12 Posted June 2, 2006 I for one am going to wait. Sure I would like my other items but Al spends a lot of money to keep this site going so I don't have a problem waiting. I've been waiting for Adventure II and Raindeer Rescue as well. And I'm going to keep waiting for the same reasons stated above.
jetset #13 Posted June 2, 2006 Plus, there's not much choice other than to wait is there?
Big Player #14 Posted June 2, 2006 Other than having Al ship Reindeer Rescue and the other games I ordered separately, no I don't see too many other options besides waiting.
Albert #15 Posted June 2, 2006 I downloaded Reindeer Rescue and it sucks. Especially the part that's impossible to pass. You're entitled to your opinion, but you are the first person I've seen say the game "sucks", and there are over 200 copies of the game out there in cartridge form. There are no parts that are impossible to pass. ..Al
godzillajoe #16 Posted June 2, 2006 Can someone give me a basic idea of what to catch and what to avoid or point me to an online manual? I just downloaded the rom. It doesn't suck at all. In fact, I wish I bought one when I had the chance. Would probably go over great at holiday parties. As a kid I always wanted to do a Christmas game where you were Santa in a sleigh and you had to drop presents into chimneys of good kids and avoid the bad kids' houses. Sorta like Paperboy but a side scroller. And there would be snowflakes and other stuff to impede your progress I gotta get cracking on that 6502 programming! jetset #17 Posted June 2, 2006 Other than having Al ship Reindeer Rescue and the other games I ordered separately, no I don't see too many other options besides waiting. Yeah and I dont plan on having Al ship RR and the other game I ordered seperately either. I'm just bummed at having to wait.
atwwong #18 Posted June 2, 2006 Good things come to those who wait... Plus, I'm no stranger to waiting when it comes to Atari...
Lord Helmet #19 Posted June 2, 2006 Part of the fun of collecting homebrews actually is the waiting. We get to see a games development from basically day 1, and follow it through to its completion, finally getting a cart in your grubby hands Back in the day, we only got a mock up screen shot in an Atari catalog or in AA magaizne. Good thing I'm not 10 years old anymore, or the anticipation for Adventure 2 would have probably killed me by now I had NO patience back then.
vdub_bobby #20 Posted June 2, 2006 I downloaded Reindeer Rescue and it sucks. Especially the part that's impossible to pass. Thanks! Can someone give me a basic idea of what to catch and what to avoid or point me to an online manual? Hmmm. I don't think there is an online manual anywhere. Here's a basic overview: It's Christmas Eve and Santa can't find the reindeer anywhere! What will he do? He'll have to go find them! So, you take Santa through 4 levels of reindeer-rescuing action: The North Pole, The Ice Caves, Suburbia, and The Big City. In each stage you will have to find and rescue two reindeer to advance to the next stage. Your energy is shown by the string of Christmas lights near the bottom of the screen - when they all go out, you'll lose a Santa (shown by the Santa hats). You can replenish Santa's energy by drinking cocoa, eating cookies, etc. You also lose a Santa when you get pushed off the left edge of the screen. There are also various things that will hinder your quest (whirlwinds, snow flurries, the abominable snowman) plus a bunch of other stuff that will give you points, extra lives, and do other things. And, it is certainly beatable (several folks have beaten it), though it does take some quick reflexes! Have fun.
+atari2600land #21 Posted June 2, 2006 Well, I'm sorry, but I didn't really like it all that much. I think it's kinda hard. Maybe it'd be better if the screen wasn't forced scrolled, or slow it down a whole bunch, or make different settings for people like me who kinda suck at video games. I hate those types of levels in Mario games.

I hate those types of levels in Mario games. Those are fair comments, though your original "it sucks" comment was pretty worthless, albeit somewhat amusing. That said, development on Reindeer Rescue is decidedly finished, especially for gameplay tweaking. Double especially since you can't buy the thing anyway. If you want an easier ROM, hack it. I did release the source, after all.
StanJr #23 Posted June 2, 2006 (edited) RR is difficult, but that is part of the challenge. You'll have to play the levels a few times to learn where and when to jump, plus where the best items are. RR is a great game, and I hope that a fuller game similar but not Holiday themed will someday be developed. Edited June 2, 2006 by StanJr
vdub_bobby #24 Posted June 2, 2006 and I hope that a fuller game similar but not Holiday themed will someday be developed. What do you mean? Do you mean a non-holiday Reindeer Rescue? Or a completely new game?
StanJr #25 Posted June 2, 2006 I mean a game ala RR, but not Holiday themed. Wasn't RR based on the Running Man game? I was hoping that would be completed at some point.
